I'm looking to find a 2" barrel for my mid 80's stainless model 715 .357 Mag.

Do I need one from the exact model as mine, or are there other models' barrels which would be interchangeable with my 715.  Thx,

Josh P

You really have two choices:

EASY/QUICK: Buy from CZ/DW, which at 2009 prices will run you $190+shipping. Will be fully functional but look very slightly different than original (no rollmarks) but you can get a custom, laser etched shroud

LESS EASY/LESS QUICK: Buy online from an auction, around the same price probably, and should be period correct with rollmarks. May possibly not be in perfect condition, but with SS that is a pretty easy fix if you want to.

My preference is Monson original, but I am getting a new one made this year in SS , I'm never going to find a Monson SS 6VH shroud in .22

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Never have seen a 722 6VH Barrel/shroud for sale. Finally bought just a barrel, and i shoot it with a 715 shroud. Gonna do a DWF shroud this year.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

So uh anyway, do I need a barrel & shroud from a 715, or will one from other .357's work?  Anyone know?

After I bought my 4" DW22 I of course started looking for a 6" BA.... no luck.  So I ordered one of the 6" barrels CZ was selling off for $22 (great deal). Never did find a shroud to go with it.  Then I found a complete 6" 22 BA on GB  and bought it (now I have an extra barrel). Laugh ..Then a while later, I buy a  PP ful of parts and get another 6" complete BA.... Now I'm on the hunt for another DW22 in 4" Mad...

Now SS is a little harder to find....but you never know..

G-n-G, you can use a barrel & shroud (barrel assembly) from a 15-2 blued gun, or one marked .38 Special will work as well. Blued ones are on Gunbroker pretty much constantly.

The ones you can not use are .357 Porkchop barrel assemblies, nor .357 SuperMag. If you're unfamiliar with the differences in these, here's a couple reference threads.

Porkchops...

SuperMag's...

SHOOT:

I am going to assume from your last line that neither of your .22 BA'a are SS.  If I'm wrong, PM me; we'll come to an agreement.

Last year I was at a show in Chantilly, VA and picked up a VH6 and VH8 for my 722 along with a 44 Barrel wrench for $200... Big Grin

The same dealer wanted $145 for his standard 6" 357 barrel assembly!

Rats!

I've decided to buy Norwich BA's for my 22MS, but I really want roll-marked shrouds for the 22LR.
