New member here!

I recently picked up a model 40 in .357 Maximum.  It's my first DW, and so far it's easily one of my favorite wheelguns to shoot.DWF Sign

A friend of mine has a 15-2VH Pistol Pac (.357 Magnum) that he's considering selling, and I'm certainly interested.  My question is, can I swap the 15-2VH barrels with my model 40?  I understand the frame sizes are different, but are the barrels interchangeable?  They are both the same bore diameter (.357).  The Pistol Pac is already attractive, but if I can interchange barrels with the 40 then that's even better.

Welcome TO THE DWF Sign.  The answer to your question is no. The 15-2 is a small frame and the m40 is a large frame. the barrel and shroud is bigger even though the caliber diameter is the same.

If you need a replacement barrel, Myself and superdan and 788 have had a discussion on ordering a blank from Walther and cutting it up for our 357 Supers. The nice advantage of this is the twist rate can be altered to say a 1-14.Drool

Damn!  I was hoping they would be interchangeable--but thank you for the quick reply!

I don't need a new barrel--mine shoots great!  But I thought it would be nice to be able to interchange the .357 Max with the Pistol pac barrels--sort of like a "super pistol pac" with an assortment of barrels and the choice of max vs. magnum.

Of course, I can always shoot .357 Mags out of the Max, but I prefer to shoot "full length" cartridges whenever possible.  I have a number of other revolvers that can shoot shorter cartridges (.38/.357, .44 Long Colt/.454 Casull) but I dislike doing so as I find the longer brass tends to stick in the cylinder after shooting the short loads.  It takes a lot of scrubbing to fix that issue!

Thank you for that link!  I tried to dig around the forum using the search before I posted my question, but I must have missed that somehow.  This makes it very clear that they are not interchangeable!

Welcome to DWF, even if the parts don't interchange, I'd grab the Pack if it's a reasonable price, everyone needs a Pack (like me Frown).

Please visit our New Members area and show us some pictures.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
