Are barrels for the 357 mag and 357 max interchangeable? While barrels/shrouds for the max seem to be in limited supply, there are many more mag barrels/shrouds available. I love the VH I have on my max, but I'd like to get a 4 or 6" for easier carry.

I believe 357 maximum barrels are NOT interchangable with 357 mag. The large frame shrouds are of a larger diameter and so too are the barrels. The bore would be the same but the barrels not.

In a word NO! The 357 mag is a small frame, the 357max is a Supermag frame, MUCH bigger. The barrels are also a different diameter and thread than the small frame 357mag. You are stuck with gunbroker, ebay or call Dan Wesson and have them make you whatever style and length 357Max shroud you desire.

You can get an aftermarket shroud from Eric at EWK. The barrel is best bought from DW, IMO.

If all the guns were the same we wouldn't have DWAS. I neglected to welcome you to the forum. WELCOME. I recommend a 15-2 or 715 for casual shooting.

Thanks folks, glad I didn't buy a 357 mag barrel/shroud! Guess I'll start looking for a 4 or 6" max combo.

It could be years before you come across one in the used market. If you really want one you're going to have to have the factory make you one.

.357 SuperMag is one heck of a carry gun!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
