Since I am mainly a silhouette shooter, 8-10" is the best length for me. My first DW was an 8" stainless .357 SuperMag. Most of my other revolvers, including non-DW brands, are also 8-10".
There are two DW's in my collection that are 6", a stainless .41 Mag and a nickel .357 SuperMag. For shooting from a standing position, they balance very well for me. My only other revolver less than 8" is a Diamondback .22LR with 6" barrel. They never made an 8" version, or I would have one, and the 4" and under are too short for me.

My 2 cents
22, 6 and over
357/ 38, I shoot tons with either 14 or 15-2s 2.5" 20 yards or so, though do have 4"- 15" for these not sure I have 12"or not!
44, my favorite is 10"VH reach out and touch something though the 3"is an attention grabber
no choice on the Lil Dan
357 max 8"though have shot it yet
my CC is the ole P64 although at times Dan is with me and always near!
