I'm considering joining a local shooting club that features target shooting out to 100 yards. In the past I've had trouble seeing the targets behind the front ramp sights and fiber optic ones when shooting long range. I'd prefer to extend my shooting out as far as possible with fixed sights.
What do you all think would be the best sight combination? I'll be shooting a 15-2 VH, 8 inch barrel.
Thanks!

I have to start with the truth that I have never been formally taught how to long distance shoot. I have been shooting handguns for over 40 years. Indoor, outdoors, target, and hunting. This is my own opinion and what works for me. For me to shoot 100 yards I use the 6 o'clock hold so I am not trying to hit a target half covered up by my sight. My 8" Wesson has the target rear sight all black with a partridge all black front sight. I sight in so I hit dead on with the target sitting on top of my sights. I have a few revolvers with a front ramp. Some are colored some not. It is easier for me to keep the front sight level in the rear notch when everything is flat and black. Ask 100 guys what works for them you will probably get 100 answers. What kind of targets will you be shooting at?

The BOMAR hooded front sights with the matching indexing rear sight were great for distance. They aren't made any longer however. See the 7414 SRS1 IN the banner at the top of the page.

I've never thought of that! Makes sense as well. I also haven't had training, but enjoy the challenge of longer distance shooting. I'll sight in as you've suggested and give it a try
Thanks!

Bo-Mar only made the rear sights. Bond or Lansing made the hooded fronts, but, yes, they are the best for long distance shooting. I have them on many of my silhouette handguns, which are shot out to 200 meters in a match, 300 meters for fun. I have them on a couple of my Dan Wessons.
