Who the heck is in charge of tracking prices for that publication, anyway? I don't think they have had a thumb on the true pulse of gun sales at any point in their history, other than maybe one or two brands (Smiff & Colt), and even then, it's probably still not accurate. So why anyone would seriously refer to their price ranges is beyond me.

Good morning
Really makes you wonder in what time zone they find these prices to average together and come up with thier values.
I buy a book about every 5 years for basic information and use Gunbroker sales as my price guide.
But I sure would stand in line for a real 414 SM at anyprice under what the real asking prices have been.

I was told he research's the sales at Gun shows, when was the last you saw a Dan Wesson at a Gun Show. Maybe he should research Gun Broker, Auction Arms, and Gunsamerica to see what Dan Wessons sell for. But I agree buy them for Blue Book, but none of us will sell them for that.
Everytime some new guy asks "what's it worth?" here on the Forum he gets the same BAD answer everytime "Blue Book" come on guy's which one of you is willing to sell me your Dan Wesson for "Blue Book".

The biggest problem is the dealers live/die by blue book values... it is all they have. And a lot of people get taken advantage of because they don't know any better.
SHOOT
Preaching to the Choir on this one. Dealers use BB Value -% to buy (because they have to make money too) and then +% on BB (because they have to make money too).
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Part of the reasoning on this (telling them check blue) is that we have had folks pop on here ask what it worth, (we give them a fair price value) then they turn around and want that for it from the forum folks. These are the never to be heard from again folks. After some talk about we came up with the tell them to look at blue book. Hey I would buy on the BB scale almost any day!

You could buy more than 4 of them for the price I paid for each of mine. Maybe I just don't understand how auctions work.
