Hello all new to forum but I do own a valor. The LGS has a 1989 Monson blued 44 mag with 2.5,4,6,8 original barrel and with what appears to be a later year 8 inch on it with the gold etched DW logo on full lug. I believe the trigger has been worked on as it is very light in single stage function. I would give it 99% as it is very clean. They are asking 1100+tax for it without original case. Is this price to out of line.
Thanks Robert
Robert, it sounds like a steal. I would jump on it. The 21/2" BA is probably an EWK product. If it is factory it would be very rare. You are correct about the later 8" shroud. I think it would sell for at least 1600 on Gunbroker and as much as 2200 if the pieces were sold separate on ebay and the frame on GB. If there was a box or case even more. The roll mark would say Monson although it was made at the Palmer factory. All Large frames have the crisp single action although it may have had a factory trigger job. I would be at the store's door at at opening time.
The length is measured from the forcing cone to the muzzle. A compensated assembly does not count the Vented end, just the barrel tube. I am not familiar with a 3". The 10" is actually 93/4" and the 8" compensated assembly is 91/2" overall. You will know more as soon as you run down to the LGS and buy it. Merry Christmas. From yourself. 👍

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I went to lgs to look at it again to purchase and ran into what I thought to be red flags. First of all the 4,6 and 8 inch barrels were newer year and the 10" being original to the gun while this I didn't know if it should be a deal breaker what was is when slight pressure was put on the right side of the cylinder the release would not keep it closed. The release spring was strong and the catch was sharp but appeared to have a slight burr in the release pocket on the frame. Needless to say the salesman seen this problem and pulled the gun from the shelf for liability reasons. I have always wanted a DW 44 and I am in the market for a 44. Any feedback on the next best 44 on the market would be great.
Thanks Robert

Go back and make him an offer and send it to Dan Wesson in Norwich, NY, they can fix that minor problem for you for a decent price. The extra barrels are still an added benefit even if they carry a newer roll mark/laser engraving.

Thank you everyone so much for the advice. I brought it home today. I spoke with DW and the gunsmith said he would replace latch and spring and go through the gun and check it out timing and such and tune up what needs be for $ 140.00 I really don't know if I will ever use all the barrels but what to keep what to sell No idea. I may just keep them to keep them. I will post some pics as soon as I figure out how here on this forum. You all are tops in my book.
Great Forum

Congratulations Robert. You won't regret it. Don't sell anything till you shoot it a bunch in all configurations. Then you will know what you like the best and you may also know what else you want and you can sell or trade barrel assemblies for the new acquisition. Enjoy!

Nice score! For the money, I'd let them go over the gun, that way you will have confidence in it and get more enjoyment out of using it. JMHO.

The trigger is silver and just still curious is it normal for the extractor to ever so slightly touch when closing cylinder. should I send barrels to DW as well for them to once over everything. I have always wanted one of these revolvers after shooting my buddies 35 years ago.
Not sure if the extractor should run. Most Dans do have rub marks on the recoil shield so I suspect it is normal unless it interfere with the operation of the gun. Are you talking about it rubbing the decent ball? If the threads on the barrels are good there is no reason to send all the BAs. Make sure the threads are clean and oiled. Never over tighten the barrel nut. Snug is good. When screwing in the barrel for the first time, open the cylinder and screw in the barrel as far as it goes. Then back it out and, close the cylinder and set the gap. This keeps the whole length of the threads clean. . 002 is the proper gap for the large frame.
