Put that 4" on there and 'choot it! That's my fav for the 44. Elaborate a bit on the extractor rub question, please. I'm not picturing the question you're asking... point the revolver barrel down while closing the cylinder; does that resolve the issue?

The extractor slightly hits the recoil shield when closing but no wear marks are visible. The only other issue I have seen is that the original barrel assy. the barrel has a little hang up in the shroud while spinning it I will sent it back as well to make sure nothing is bent. Also I wander why DW could not put their logo insets straight in the grip one is almost upside down no biggie just saying. now I have to order 44 dies.
Thanks a lot Robert

Clean the barrel tube on the outside and also scrub out the inside of the shroud. If someone shot the power control tubes, there could be fouling and bullet shavings in there causing binding. Ive had shrouds that wouldn't come off due to excessive fouling from not cleaning after ever use of the power control tubes. BTW those are the barrel tubes with the holes in the ends, don't use them if possible.

What you are describing sounds normal but a picture would confirm. The cylinder aligning ball fits into the hole at the back of the extractor. A slight drag as the cylinder is closing is not abnormal.
The DW medallions can be popped out from the inside of the grip- I use an allen wrench or something similar. A dab of elmers or other glue when re-assembling will help keep them in place until the recoil breaks the glue loose again... you can use a resin for a more secure fix.

Hate to pester you guys so much but being a new owner I have questions. I searched the SN# out and I think it is an 89 roll marked Monson. A member here said even though the roll mark says Monson it was made in palmer does that diminish the quality of the gun. The SN# is B0014xx is it infact an 89 year model.
Thanks again Robert

The whole Monson era/Palmer era is to me a complicated and somewhat muddled subject. The Dan Wesson timeline can be difficult to sort out. I own a Palmer marked .44 magnum, it has the most beautiful bluing of any Dan Wesson I own, and is very well built like every Dan Wesson that I own.
Looking at our serial # registry, I would guess yours was made around 1982-83 but it is merely a guess as firm data is not available. I think you did quite well at the price for all that you got there.

The barrel tubes are available and they will work with any style shroud. You can get them from Dan Wesson and possibly EWKarms, see right sidebar on screen.
From what we now know from former employees at Dan Wesson and some family members, ALL the large frame guns were built in the Palmer factory, even those marked Monson MA as that was the headquarters of the company at the time. The tooling for the large frames was put in the then new Palmer facility. That will in no way diminish the value of gun.

Always learning something new. I have Bunches of grips and I never realized the medallions turn in their hole when the gun is shot. It is going to be a big job straightening them. The 10" V (partial lug) may be my favorite shroud. I find the long sight radius increases my accuracy greatly. The VH 10" is too heavy for my tastes.

Wow! Wish I could have gotten your deal! $1100 for 44mag with 4 barrels/shrouds. That's excellent! I have one with 6+8" shrouds, and both ported/unported barrels. Now I'm on the hunt for a 4" Blued non-ported shroud/barrel, among other things. I would love to have the lighter shroud's as well, Love the look.
