I just know I read a thread somewhere here about doing some clean up to blued guns that have a small amount of rust specs on them and how to do a nice job of cleaning them up.  I just can't find it.  Any help?

Hey SMF,

Here is a link to a post over at The Firing Line.  I couldn't find the post here at DWF.  Maybe one of the other guys can...

I bought a Model 15 with a 6″ HV barrel that was abandoned in a trunk of a car for a full summer with no relief from the humidity. It was almost 100%  covered with surface rust. This gun looked terrible. But, since I was hooked on Dan Wessons and this one was looking ok in every other respect, I gave my felllow co-worker 90 bucks and I took it home. My wife  is an artist and works with different chemicals so I was aware of what “Wink” is capable of. Just use the simple rust removal in the brown plasitic bottle. I also used some sewing machine oil along with it, but that probably wasn't needed to get rid of the rust. The rust just vanishes!

Gun oil and an all-copper penny (not a newer one) will work just fine.  Pour a little oil onto the rust spot and rub it gently with the edge of the penny.  The rust will disappear with some gentle rubbing.  Be generous with the oil.

I have cleaned up several guns this way with excellent results.  Take note, using this method will also remove the bluing under the rust spot but will not harm the bluing around the rust spot.
