I have a DW 744SS with 2 6'', & 2 8'' barrels.  The ser # is  SBOOXXXX.     I have the brand new in the box Burris base - Long eye relief  -  LU-NT-DW-SS  -  #410385.  It don't fit.     I called Burris & explained my problem & they very kindlly mailed me another.   Still don't fit.   Base needs to be taller so screws can line up.    I have a 6'' &  8'' shroud & the bases won't fit either.    Why???   What the heck do I have?   I bought the base, rings & scope brand new. I do not & will not drill & tap the rib.............................

I also need a DW takedown instruction manual.   I took the pistol to my  gunsmith for some action & trigger work.  He did not want to attempt to do the work without the mauual.    However some good news is that this revolver is super deadly accurate & tremendously fun to shoot.   I just simply love it & will be buying the 357 next.

Thanks in advance for your help, as I am a new member you guys have been very helpful before.

Respectfully yours,

not sure on the  mounts but the break downs are found in links to the right, the side bar or look under large frame revolvers.  Hope you can find them.

  • Where can I find User Manuals for my DW?
  • oh and welcome helps to see what you are dealing with (so post up some pics) these guys seem to have good grasp on things.   the mount thing is puzzling!

If your gunsmith needs the manual for a trigger job, you need to find another gunsmith.  you don't want to be the "practice DW" he learns on.

    So you have this:

    Image Enlarger

I found that this would not fit a 744 because the top of the rib was too thick for the clamps to attach, however it fit a 715 perfectly.

They sent you another one? This not a current production item (I think), and very hard to find (I know).

Please tell us who you contacted at Burris to get a second one.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Steve, Yes same numbers & base.  Tech names are Josh Lawley, & Andy. They actually mailed me the base at N/C, to see if it fit.  I will bring it back as I live a only a few miles away.

Dave, I do not know how to post pix.

Shoot, be nice please. I am inviting you to consider a trip to Louisville, CO to shoot at my great shooting range.  I truly hope you can make it.

Thanks for your replys.  I am still looking & hoping to find a base.

Or you could use this type mount. No drill , common base easy to find.

That is the B Square mount that was also pictured in the scope mounts topic. They are often available on ebay auctions, one just sold on our DWF Fundraiser Auction a couple of days ago.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

    Blacktop,

What's that "extra hole" (?) at the back of the B-Square mount? I don't see that on mine.

Pete, I think the B-Square fits a 357 and 44 (can anybody confirm that? I have mine on a 357). I can bring mine along when we get together so you can "try it on".  I want to keep mine, but you can  see if you want to go that route.

I bought a super-mag with a B-Square mounted, so yes they work on large frames also. asumming there is only one model of mount that is.

The extra hole is to adjust the base more forward, and I've had one on my 357SM for several years and it's still tight.Welcome
