Today at the local drug dealer...I mean gun shop...I saw a bare revolver (no box, papers, tools, anything) Second Amendment commemorative .44 Mag. Supposedly unfired and looks like that is likely true. Don't know why someone would keep a commemorative unfired but without the box and everything else. Maybe separated for storage and then the box and stuff got "lost" while the gun itself was saved.
They said they had it a month or so but wanted it out of inventory. Were asking $1400 before, but down to $999 today. And I could have it for $900 out the door. I was there doing a private party transfer for a gun I sold (State requirement), so I DID have the money in pocket...
So..."how'd I do?" Can't bring it home for about 2 weeks after the background check (thanks again, Washington).
Yeah. No. I didn't need it. What the heck.

Why do I not come across these killer deals! First the guy with the $500 .32 and now this? What a deal. Why though do i keep seeing these that have been fired? and you buying a commemorative collector gun (not you but the original buyer) why or how do you loose the wood case it came in and these came with tags warning people that firing the gun was kind of a bad idea lowering the value. they also came zip tied to keek buyers from even cocking the gun (turn ring) and they had a protective ban also protecting the gun from a turn ring. Crazy I keep seeing them zip ties gone and gun fired. Here is a pic of how they came!

Brought the gun home yesterday and managed to find and "win" a display box for it! Will post pics again when they are united.
My gun is without the zip tie, as shown in the first pics, but there is a small piece of paper or something between the locking bolt and cylinder locking hole.
Are these hand engraved, or machine done? Thought I saw a mention somewhere about them being hand engraved, but don't know if that is correct.
Thanks!

Received the display box today from the auction company! Was hoping it would have some extras or a secret compartment or something, but it came just with the box, instruction booklet, barrel wrench and the key.
Other than the display "bullets", what else is missing from the original package? Yeah, the hang tag saying you damage the value if you shoot it. Anything else?

I was bidding on that case (proxybid) but scout728 told me you wanted it so I stopped bidding. I do not like bidding against another member. How much did you end up getting it for with shipping? Sometimes proxybid really sticks it to you on shipping. The manual and tool was worth over $100 do it was a good buy! I just got a gold commemorative myself 3 days ago. Pretty good deal $1850 no tax free ship. not as good a deal as yours though! Another one just showed up on gunbroker it's also listed on guns international you can buy it there without paying tax!

I put in one bid on Proxbid right after Scout728 put me onto it. Once that was outbid, I went straight to Montrose with an absentee bid. Paid $225 bid price plus 12.5% fee (iirc) and about $32 shipping. $285 total delivered, so I'm into the set now just under $1200.
How were these engraved? Hand, machine, acid, laser, other?

Not sure that's an answer? What did professor google say? how was it done? If they were made in the 80's it's a Monsun gun and a 44 mag they did not use lasers back then so what type of engraving is used? Can't do press engraving on round edges so that leaves acid? I do not really know just what I read on professor google just now I think the newer Norwich guns they could have used a laser but not these older guns. Any other experts out there weight in?
I asked the Foremost Authority. We have a member who is the most knowledgeable firearms expert possibly anywhere. MarkSAA. He is an esteemed member of the S&W Collector's Association. Firearms manufacturers send him prototypes for his opinion. I didn't learn what I know on my own. Lol. He is my secret weapon. And a dear friend.
HE says : photo engraved or machine engraved. He has never seen a Historical Society Dan Wesson that was hand engraved. He can't tell from the picture which.
The Gold Commorative is still very attractive but every gun is exactly alike. Impossible with hand engraving. The only hand engraved guns I know about are the very early fully engraved porkchops and the factory 15-2s with 25%,50%, 75%, and 100%. The style is distinctive and only varies in the coverage. I did see an engraved pack on Gunbroker that looked similar but it had a dragon on the sideplate. I passed on it because of the dragon.
