Any input would be appreciated. This is a 15-2VH with the typical barrels 2,4,6,8". The set includes barrel tool & gap tool, extra sites, two grips, belt buckle & patch with instruction manual. Pistol box is original but no keys & a little dirty inside but not so bad. The gun has Just a faint cylinder ring.. Here is where it gets interesting. Before I cock the hammer I can (if I use a bit of force) move the cylinder. Cylinder lock up is terrible before cocking but will not budge after cocking. I know this is not right. Actually dangerous if the cylinder does not match up with the barrel. Is this something easily fixed? Or do I let this one pass by? I also noticed something else, the four inch barrell shroud will not line up with the shroud locating pin?? Pin is not bent its just the hole on the shroud??? Has anyone had this problem with a shroud before? I must say these are problems but, this set if not mechanically sound looks like a brand new set compared to a lot of other DW pistols I have seen. Sale price is 660.00 Any thoughts??
My other pistol pack a 15-2v w/4barrels does not have any of these problems.

If you have a gunsmith you trust to do some work, you might be alright as long as you are willing to put a couple hundred more in to make everything right. The shroud thing is strange, any chance it's not part of this set and was put in to make a complete set? Even so, it's strange. Good luck.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thats the problem I dont know a smith that I trust. I also dont feel I should have to put a few more hundred into this DW. Not the way it looks. It looks mint!!!! I tried the 4" VH shroud on my other DW which only has V rib & it will not fit that one either. It must have been a factory error. it seems like the hole is only off a few thousands. But the others fit just fine on both frames. I am thinking more to the side of passing on this one.

JoeBuzz,
Lockup should be checked; draw the hammer back and hold it with your thumb, squeeze the trigger and ease the hammer forward. Now with the triugger still held back, check for cylinder movement. The cylinder can move around a lot more when the revolver is not in lockup (trigger not held back).
I have never seen a shroud not fit over the alignment pin before.
The cylinder lockup was a problem on a few of the Monson models; it's usually due to a little overhang of casting in the pocket that the crane latch locks into. My mod 40 had the same problem. I noticed the latch wasn't totally up when shut. I used a diamond tip on a dremmel and worked the pocket a little at a time until I got solid lock-up; it's been shooting fine since 1992 so I guess it worked. As for the shroud, it sounds like a bad shroud; if all others work fine. I would show the faults to the seller and see how much of a discount you could get. I didn't discover mine til after I bought it; but it was an unbelievable bargain; it was in a pawnshop and had been there a while. It was a 357max and the manager knew that they stopoped making bullets for it. I reload and they still made brass..got it for $160 with a promise to not return the gun.

Hi wdelack, thanks for your response. I tried doing exactly what you have said & after easing the hammer back to forward & still holding on to the trigger there is slight movement of the cylinder.About 1/8th inch or less. Its when the gun is not cocked & the trigger is not pulled I can turn the cylinder to the left one complete turn to the next cylinder hole again & again. Its as if the bolt (silver piece at bottom most of frame) is not raised high enough to catch & hold the grooves in the cylinder. Normally when cocking the cylinder moves to the right. I have tried this on my other DW and it too moves but its much harder to turn & it will not turn more than one hole.
As far as the shroud goes it appears the hole in the shroud itself is off by a few thousands. So between two pistol packs 7 of eight shrouds fit both guns. Just the one gets hung on the locator pin on both gun frames. That could very well be a quick fix also.

Hi Robert H, Thanks also for your input. I already have the pistol pack in my possession but, I do have the option of sending it back with postage also returned. I truely have not seen a used DW in this good of shape ( meaning appearance wise). With the exception of the two things I am complaining about I had felt this was a superb buy. I have already informed the seller and he did not discuss lowering the price but, did say to send it back and if they find what I am saying is true they will then send full refund. Its like finding that old car that looks mint but it does need a valve job........
Thanks again
I misread your problem; I thought you could open your cylinder, not just rotate it, my fix is for the crane not locking up, which aparently happened with a few. I called DW Norwich when they first started up and talked to their smith, who gave me the fix for the crane lock. If the hole in the shroud is very close, you might be able to drill a slightly larger hole til it fits and if there's too much play, grease the pin with silicone grease and put epoxy steel or JB Weld in the hole, place on pistol and align, tighten and leave overnight. I've used that fix for stripped scope mounts and even for a barrel lug on a Contender.
