So got my second DW a few months ago in near mint condition, a nice surprise.

Started cleaning the gun and finds that the bluing starts to look odd just over the grip, so I take some CLP on a rag and whip on the tang covered by the grip and yepp the bluing goes from hi glans deep dark to  dull gray.

Anyone got this problem before ?

welcometo the dwf-sign. Sorry to hear about the blueing problem. It sounds odd. I wonder if the previous owner may have done some type of dye job to make it sell better. Just a guess on my part.

Is it possible that a previous owner had gone over it with cold bluing? Would not be quite as durable as original hot bluing.

Many DW's exibit a "fogging" in that area.  If you look closely, it is polished in a different direction also.  Not sure about your DW/CLP experience, but mine is..

DW with CLP inside .... NEVER AGAIN !!!

First, welcome to the forum.  From Sweden no less.  Cool.

My 22 has done the same thing.  I had used CLP on it but never attributed the change to it.  As Shoot said, it is a somewhat common occurrence.  It hasn't gotten any worse since it first appeared.  Be very careful if you try to polish it out.  I can't remember who, but somebody here tried to polish it out with Flitz.  Unfortunately, he went through the bluing and if I remember correctly eventually sent it out to be re-blued.  That experience is why I have just left mine alone.  Sorry I'm not more help.

I have seen a little bit of that on DW pistols that have been in storage in styrofoam.

I found out the hard way acidic stuff loves to eat bluing right down to the bare metal!

So be very careful of what the product contents are before applying it to bluing. If it has any acidic content, keep it far away.

Rig Grease is as old as I am and it still works great inside and out on all guns.  R S

Ok, I thought you ment CLP ate the bluing off, nobody has every seen that.

Yes some Dans have the fogging on the side plates, yes you can polish

with Flitz and get some of it off. In fact I got one whole side of a 15 looking

perfect after using Flitz and I went too far on the last little spot on the other.

Believe me it takes quite a bit of rubbing to eat through the bluing so don't

be afraid to do a little Flitz.

Thanks for the welcoming, been lurking for about 2.5 years when i got my first DW.

I only use CLP as a cleaner but not for the dans now.

Going to try Flitz later if i can get a hold of it, the onlyone ho has it here is midway sweden and I refuse to shop there ( a 7,6oz bottle is 60.84$ and he has no stock he orders from US )

Anyone have an input on using Blue Wonder cleaner? I just ordered some but not yet tried it.

Flitz - isn't that an abrasive? If so, it would be a poor choice for a blued finish I think.
