Why are the barrels for the .357 so darned expensive? You can almost buy a complete gun for what you pay for a barrel.
I was browsing Ebay, and was looking at one particular 4" barrel and shroud that started out at $100.00. It is now $207.50 (last time I looked today) and still had 2 days and one hour to go. . What's up with this? Is it because they are a little difficult to get?
I am in the market for a 4" barrel for my DW 15 to replace my 2 1/2". But at these prices I may have to keep it. Anybody interested? Huh-Huh!
Just an observation.

They don't make any more with the matching Monson rollmark. New ones from Dan Wesson are even more. Suoply and demand. Everyone wants more barrel assemblies and not enough old pistol packs. In theory you should be able to swap your 21/2" for a 4". 4"is very popular but there seems to be less of them than other lengths. Most common is 6". In 44 mag. 4" and 10" are scarce. Many like the look of the heavy barrels so they go for a premium.

This is sort of like buying parts to do a historically correct classic car restoration.
If you want the old school originals, you will need to be ready to pay the price.
For newer manufacture, there is still a pretty stiff price point, it's a very specialized and market driven supply line.
As little as two years ago, this was very different and prices were more responsive to a different marketplace.
The DW World is VERY different in the past year or so, I'm pretty happy that I have everything I need, I'd hate to be buying anything DW revolver related these days.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
