Just bought this model 15. Over travel screw is in trigger. Going through the serial number info I still don't know about when this gun was made.

Serial # 1436XX   Made in Monson.

Thanks

Pure guesswork, early 80's. Mine was a 5 digit with internal overtravel-1977. DW serial numbers don't neccessarily make sense.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Warnerwh,

From the small amount of datapoints we've gathered your Model 15-2 falls into early to mid 1978.

As Steve noted, this isn't exact science yet, but we happen to have several data points around your serial number, including my 15-2 pac Serial #1537XX with original barrel wrappers dated May 1978.  Those wrappers were restocked every 6 months at the factory, so they are accurate to the date shown + ~6 mos.  So I estimate mine was made between May and November of '78.  Yours being 10,000 units earlier puts it in the same timeframe or the previous 6 mos. (approx.)

Thank you guys for the info. 1978 is close enough for me.

Boy, that's for sure. I have sorta been watching the guns on the auctions & attempting to make an approximate guess as to when the overtravel screw moved into the frame. Mine is mounted in the trigger & has a 1727xx number. The latest I have noted so far with the trigger mounted screw is 189861.

So far, the lowest number I've seen with the internal screw is this one...

...but if your 5-digit gun has an internal screw, then I have no idea what's going on.Surprised I had been under the impression that it moved internal later on in the number range, now I'm starting from scratch again.Embarassed

I know this is an old thread, but my monson 274xxx is trigger mounted overtrvl, and my monson 379xxx is inframe.

Have you ever noticed that 3+5+7 is GREATER than 9+1+1 ?                 .

It's not you Steve K. It's the mystery of Dan Wesson serial numbers that befuddles us. We blame the BATF black hole and the inescapable event horizon. However, Stephen Hawkins now says the information may not be destroyed. He doesn't know the BATF.

Oh boy, Ron you hit my button.  --- I just typed a vicious diatribe about BHO but erased it. Suffice it to say, if this isn't a wakeup call for the Fair Tax and the dissolution of the IRS then over half the population are already zombies.
