I've never ordered a Hogue Custom, but when you look at their website they have some really nice stuff. I have had Hogue wood grips in the past, I think I had to enlarge the grip screw hole to accept a DW grip screw. If you need to do this, do it carefully so you don't make the hole deeper.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I do not have any custom Hogues, but I have 3 Hogue small frame finger groove wood grips and they fit and look great. The first one I think I enlarged the hole for the Dan screw, but the last 2 came with their own screws and fit well without modification.

EDIT: I did have to shorten the screws that came with the Hogues, they were too long and interfered with hammer travel.

Here's one of the custom grips I ordered from Hogue.  I love it.  It was very expensive.  However, I have more custom grips made by LB (a member here).  He does stunning work and his prices are very reasonable, almost too cheap.

Here's the Hogue grip:

Good morning

Custom grips by a wood artist can make a plain old revolver look like a Bar B Que gun real fast.

Another option is to buy the ugly dinged up  factory wood grips few are interested in and fit them to your hand.  Have done a couple and those are the grips that go to the range and hunting with me. After shaping and sanding I coat them well with linseed oil.

As I just found out there are two different grip screws for the DWs. one short and one long. I have the 357 & the .22. Bought matching Pachmyer grips. They require the longer screw. So if madI want the grips one each gun at the same time I need another longer screw. Anybody know where I can get a longer screw? Checked EWK and they don't list them.

Thanks,

Steve

I believe Numrich has the correct screws, but you could also get a screw at your local hardware store. Doesnt even have to be an allen head, could be phillips or whatever. Sometimes you just have to grind the head a little smaller to fit the grip hole. It wont be original equipment but it is a cheap alternative.

The OEM type screw is proprietary to DW and pricey. If you are not hung up on original, the two standard screw sizes are. 8/32 X 1 1/2 long or 8/32 X 1 1/4 short. Some grips vary in the screw length you need so pay attention. I make my grips where the screw will turn in approximately 6 to 8 full turns until snug. If the screw threads in too far it can inter-fear with cocking.

There you go, that info is right from the guy that we would conservatively call an authority on Dan Wesson grips, that paragraph should be mandatory reading for every new member signing up to the forum, it would save so many people so many headacheslaugh

Gentlemen, I recently purchased a 15-2, my 1st revolver and like it a lot. It has the checkered DW grips on it. From reading the thread, yes my grips are pretty wide for my hand.  I have very, very little woodworking skills, but am lookiing for a set of "thinner" if that is a good term for my DW. Any suggestions on a wood grip or someone who can work a set for me. I guess it's impossible or too much to ask for a set of thinner, yet checkered grips?  Thanks.    Dad.

Hey there Dad. You really need to check out LB Custom Grips. He's made a couple for me that are impeccable. He's a forum member and his link is over there ----------------------->

Order a checkered hogue grip. They're about as thin as you will find. You can order them through Midway or directly from Hogue. It will take about 2 months to get them but at least you will be getting what you want. They're nice grips.

Someone needs to pin LB's statement!  How many times have we all set the screw to deep and wonder what the heck wrong!  LB catch up cause I need some grips!   As said pick up a well used set of grips and get the file out, I am not a wood worker though made a set that fits fine and looks pdg!   I don't own any wood Houge's, though they do look good!
