Hello gents I am brand new to this forum and very glad to have found you ! I have been shooting a D/W .44 mag that I bought with a 6" vh shroud an a couple of years ago I added a 10" bbl. for sillouette . My question to any body that may have an answer is recently my pistol quit advancing to one chamber ? would this be a wear issue on the " star " on the rear of the cyl or possibly to do withe hand . Any info would be greatly appreciated as I would likely have to try and find parts and do repairs myself , there is no repair depot in Canada as far as I know and as of late getting any parts out of the U/S is nearly impossible . I had to have a new barrel nut made by a machinist that cost over a hundred dollars , even though C/Z USA has them in stock for $20.00 ish . they under no circumstances will ship to Canada .2

Blaser, first let me say welcome to the group. Next I am no expert but it could be either or both the hand and or star on the cylinder causing the problem. However If you are lucky it might just be the cylinder barrel gap. I do not know how much you know about DWs so please don't be offended if I point out the obvious. If your 44 is a Monson or Palmer model the cylinder face may not be true and may be scrubbing on the barrel. Check the barrel gap on all cylinders and see if this is the case. If you have never set the barrel gap check FAQs to the right side of the screen. If your gap is OK you have other problems. A really good cleaning never hurts and if the problem persist get back to us and some our friends here will have plenty of ideas I am sure.

The issue is that since 9/11 all firearms are controled by the state department and they have imposed a $100.00 wholesale maximum parts order ( Without ) a Canadian import permit / US. export permit . And it appears that the Canadian market is small enough that there are quite a few companies that will not be bothered . Like C/Z and Novack sights for instance!

After a little closer investigation and proding with a set of feeler guages it appears that the protrutions on the star wheel all sit about .009 back or actualy ahead of the breech face with the exeption of the one that will not advance it measures .017 ahead . If I jently put a little pressure on the front edge of the cyinder it works fine .

blaser- are you saying that there is nothing about the parts themselves that is controlled, but if the purchase price is over $100 (Canadian?) it requires a license?
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Parts that are controlled are Actions, receivers, barrels and beyond that I can order prety much anything that I might need from Brownells also the trick being the Company that is sending the goods has to be a registered exporter and I'm not certain but the producer of the parts also have to be papered for export . As I mentioned before Novack sights Main Co . will not sell to Canada and Brownells cannot ship them to Canada because they are not on the list !!! And it also depends who you are talking with there are a couple of different vertions of the ( PRE ) permit figure either $100.00 or Nurmerich claims that it is $500.00????
