Hey Y'all. Noob here.
I've been lurking around for about a year. I learned how to dissassemble my DW here. Thanks.
My question is this:
Why can't inserts be fitted for the .357, and other caliber cylinders, and a new barrel made, to convert them to .327 magnum?
I've seen many cylinder inserts over the years. They are slow to reload, but otherwise work well.
The DW is uniquely adaptable, it seems to me, because of the changable barrles.
OK. Mandatory DW porn.

Welcome to the DWF !!! Nice looking DW you have there.
To answer your question--there is no reason this can't be done... However, the largest reason you won't see this conversion done is because of the possibility of someone leaving the .327 barrel in place and loading up 357 in the chambers.
Believe me--I want to do it also--just haven't gotten around to it.

I can see where trying to stuff a .358 DEWC down a barrel made for .32 would be very bad.
If I had the money, I would definatly try this though.
My poor DW has seen much abuse in my hands. I've tried to compete with rifles with it, and ended up sending it to CZ-USA for repairs. I now shoot much milder reloads.
It still gets a lot of use. So much so, I was worried about litaraly wearing it out. So when my wife asked what I wanted for Christmas, I asked for, and recieved this.
Then I saw that DW was re-introducing their line of revolvers, and did this . . .

Regarding the caliber conversion, I think it would be safest to get a .22 cylinder & bore it out to .327, then have someone (like EWK ) whip up a matching barrel for ya. That way you pretty much eliminate much chance of accidentally trying to fire the wrong bullet down the wrong tube.
aboard & thanks for showing off your 715, it looks great!
Congrats on your Blackhawk arrival too, you obviously have a good wife.

This still does not eliminate the possibility of error, mis-matching barrel and cylinder cartridge sizes. Caliber interchangeability is much easier and safer with autoloaders, where chamber and barrel are a single unit.
I believe that DW frames and barrels were threaded differently by caliber to reduce this possibility.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Steve is right on!
In the wrong hands that can easily get very dangerous having a custom caliber barrel having the same threads as a standard DW barrel. The thought has crossed my mind to offer caliber conversions...with the shroud and barrel production that would be perfect...but I don't think it will happen as the liability is off the charts there!

All of this is not to say you can't do this, it's more along the lines of discussion about why there are VERY limited options for caliber interchange options with revolvers. A careful and responsible shooter should be able to handle the ramifications involved, unfortunately, a significant portion of the shooting public is not equipped to handle something like this responsibly and safely.

I'm new to the forum, but wanted to put my 2 cents in. I have a 32H&R DW and I was thinking about having it reamed out to 327 Fed, but not sure it's worth the effort. Not sure how common the 732 is, but I would go for it before I did the chamber insert type conversion. Another conversion might be to buy a 32 cylander and barrel and convert a 715 to a 732. Again not sure if this is very economic.
I picked up a 41 Mag DW and purchased an 8VH barrel for it. I thought about using the shroud from my 44 and just buying the tube, but I worried about mixing the tubes up and trying to fun a 44 in the 41 tube, so I spent the money on a new assembly.
Hope this helps.

I know.. I know.. there are extremely good reasons for NOT doing ( at least as a manufactured part) but a one-off CUSTOM deal .....
I would LOVE a 327... my idea would be:
use a 15-2
re-thread frame to 740 ( that is 357 max)
have a custom 8 shot .327 cylinder made ( thats to compete with 8-shot smiffs in 38 super)
have a selection of custom 327 BA's made using the 357 max threading
The gun would end up being a 327 only deal
now it might be that the 15-2 frame is not big enough to allow for an 8-shot cylinder, in which case I would want a supermag frame... then again rethread the frame so it cant take a SM barrel..... EVER.
