I recently had an email conversation with someone who may be interested in purchasing my Dan Wesson model 44 Pistol Pac. In the conversation, the buyer said that, judging by the picture, the ratchet on the cylinder of my M44 is warn out. He was using the ratchet from his small frame model 15-2 as a reference.
Here are pictures of the ratchets of my three remaining Dan Wesson large frame revolvers. If the M44 ratchet is warn out, then so are the ratchets on my M40 and M41.
In order are the M44, the M41 and M40:
Obviously there is nothing wrong with the ratchet on any of the three. I don't think a small frame Dan Wesson Should be used as the reference when judging the condition of a large frame Dan Wesson.

I think he is just trying to get movement on the price... I just posted two pics of the cylinders of my 15 and 715...

Har, that was me.
Come on Wayne, I was NOT trying to get a movement on the price . You ARE going to let everybody know that I have bought it at your asking price, and I NEVER mentioned or discussed lowering the price ? This purchase is my first Large Frame, so I was just asking questions. Compared to my 15-2, the ratchets look really worn from that one photo you sent me (posted above).
Let me quote what I said in my last email to you: " My only concern is that the ratchets look quite worn. Maybe it is only the photos…… I talked to some of the board members and they weren't too concerned as long as the timing is good, unless the ratchets are Wayyy worn. I also didn't realize that ratchets get adjusted (ground down?) to adjust the timing? I may have an understanding gap here."
I was just asking for clarification.
I'll see if I can figure out how to upload photos again so I can post my 15-2 ratchets. It would show how somebody would think yours were worn if they are not familiar with Large Frame DWs.

Large frame ratchets sometimes don't appear as "deep" as small frame ones do, that's just the way they're designed. The shape does vary a bit though as Shoot stated, depending on the year manufactured.
Here's two of mine. .375 SuperMag…
And my .357 SuperMag. This one doesn't appear as deep as the 375's & it's got less than 100 rounds through it so far…

Sorry Andy, please understand that I am not the type who misrepresents what I sell. I will always describe the condition of something to the best of my ability. I can understand your desire to not get took. I have been on the receiving end of bad deals too many times to do such a thing. I have sold firearms to other members of this forum in the past and wish to do so in the future. I don't think this would be possible if I were to sell a member a bad apple.
Cheers,
Wayne
