Newcomers don't seem to mind mismatch shrouds. Purists and those seeking maximum appreciation are only interested in roll marks matching the frame. The only exceptions are those transition guns with Monson frames and Palmer shrouds. From the early Palmer era.

The 44 mag barrels are still on the web site. You do not have to go thru her you can just go to the CZ site and add them to cart. They have all sizes in blue and stainless steel except 4 inch.  So in both blue and stainless 2.5. 6, 8, 10 inch barrels are all ready to go on the web site so you can get the shortest 2.5 inch barrel on the web site. The 4 inch is not on web site but Capt. Jack is saying you can order the 4 inch thru Genny. I do not understand why some barrels are not on the web site but you can still order them by calling her. I ordered a barrel only thru her also for $99

Nothing new (I’ve been buying 44 mag BAs from DW/CZ since 2019) but good information for those new to DW and the DW forum

I'm thankful to have 3 CZ 44 mag BAs to fill out my set of 44s. I enjoy shooting the DW over my other 44s. It seems to be a much smoother revolver even after doing tune-ups on the Rugers and S&Ws.

Oh, I can't tell any difference in the brand of DAs. Of course, as bad I shoot, it wouldn't matter who made them.  laughinglaughing

I called today, and they won't sell a shroud separately, sigh.....

I am needing a 6" 744 shroud any style.

Thanks.

Per DW today:

"I’ve placed your order but I was told that the barrels are no longer manufactured other than a special run for those. The shrouds we still make for that model but not the barrels. So, in order to manufacture the barrels for the barrel assemblies it would cost an extra $96.00 to machine those barrels for it as we’ll be doing them alone."

WTF exactly does that mean?   A $96 setup surcharge on non-in-stock orders?

VictorLouis, per what I was emailed, IMHO, I think you should call back.   If they just took an two orders from me, they should not have a problem making an extra shroud while it's setup.

09/12 Update:   The $96 fee is NOT per barrel.

My kit of parts and tools has a super thin barrel shim listed as being 0.0021" and a couple of ones that are 0.006".  The thin one came with the stuff included with my .357 Supermag.  Is that tight gap recommended for the .357 Max?

Scout is the Man!

Good morning, Victor.  That is one we’re still making barrels and shrouds for the 44 and 744 magnum.  I can do barrel assemblies or just a barrel or shroud for that.  That’s I correct.  Only VH is available now.  That’s all we manufacture.

Thank you,

Genny Spencer

Office Manager

If you want a shroud only, you’ll have to place the order with me.  KC won’t have what you need.  If they have them, it’ll be whole assemblies.  Just email me your address and I can call you for payment information if you prefer.

I believe you’re looking for a 744 in 6” Shroud only would be…

$214.00

So, if you set the 0.002 on the proudest cylinder chamber, it will supposedly reduce the flame-cutting into the upper frame?

I suspect that is just wishful thinking.  Anyone want to chime in on this?
