My grandfather recently gave a .357 Dan Wesson to my father, we took it out to the range and about 1/4 of the rounds would go off. Well when we switched to single action 99% of the rounds fired. I do not have a manual for the firearm, but I imagine I either need to tighten a spring or replace one. Any suggestions?
BTW the topic should read DA vs SA.....
Thank you in advance.

That definitely sounds like a light mainspring. The nice thing about the 38/357's is the side plate makes spring change a breeze. I would contact DW/CZ and get a spring kit and replace all springs. Check out the blow up diagrams in the leader to this forum for detailed pictures of the workings and to help in removing and replacing the springs.

Having never replaced springs myself, I can share that as part on some recent work on a 15, I supplied my gunsmith with a DW Factory set, he seemed pretty happy with the results. I did the spring change as a precaution, since it was going to be fully disassembled anyways, cost $30 to make sure the springs are like new.
I will say that with any 1911, I very quickly change out springs to Wolff, long before the originals wear out, and a used 1911 always gets changed out right away.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

For the revolver, I'd go with factory. You can usually pick up some Wolf springs on the auction sites fairly cheap and putting them on the 15's is relatively easy. I put a set on my 15 that I had many years ago and single action was less than 1lb.; deadly accurate, but also too dangerous for carry. The current production main springs from DW seem to be slightly lighter than the older springs. Too light springs are also picky as to which primers they'll touch off. Mine occasionally set of CCI but always set off Federal and Winchester.
