My dad is suffering from early stages of dementia. My Mom asked me to take the handguns out of the house. I refused to take all of them and made sure she knew how to point and shoot the one hidden revolver I left behind. This gun was stolen years ago and recovered in NY. I know nothing about DW revolvers, although I LOVE their 1911s. Have no idea which model this is. He has owned it for many years. The top small hole in front of the hammer seems to missing a pin, unless that is the design, and it fires in SA mode only. Seems to need some action work that I will have done as soon as I find a good smithy. Will replace the grips when I know what I have and what fits it. Goal is to repair/keep and to remember Dad and then pass to one of my sons.

Sorry to hear about your Father, I know this can be a difficult time.
WRT to the Dan, that looks like a model 14-2. The "empty" hole probably has a small roll pin in it (so it appears to be missing but is hollow of sorts). Try backing out the grip screw a turn or two and try DA, I guess a too-seated screw can mess with the trigger (but I thought that was primarily SA in that case???). Try this for general upkeep https://www.danwessonforum.com/forum/reloading/tuning-up-your-15-2-the-average-joe-method/. Good luck. Paul

Welcome to DWF. Sorry about the issues with the father. I can tell ya I miss mine everyday still and he's been gone since 85'. I agree with middlecalf, from what I can tell in the pics it would be a 14-2 .357 mag. The tune-up is definitely a good place for you to go here, and BTW, I think those OE grips look pretty good on her. There are some better available on ebay or gunbroker that are better for a shooter though. The grip screw should just be snug enough to hold the grip in place. good luck with her and if you need any help ... just ask... we'll answer the best we can..

It looks as though that is a pretty early production (guessing at 1976-77) 14-2.
My family went through the same issues with our father. Dad was actually pretty early onset, undiagnosed for a few years, and ultimately needed nursing home care for a fair amount of time before passing very peacefully.
Peace be with you and your family as you work through this, I hope DWF can be a "refuge" for you. This is easily one of the most welcoming and helpful shooting sites you will find, our Members work very hard to make folks feel at home.
PS- I'll fix your Topic typo

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

All 15's have adjustable rear sights(referred to as "target" revolvers), and all 14's are fixed (referred to as "service" revolvers). The 14 and 15's have porkchop barrels (and the frame to accommodate) while the 14-2's (like yours) and 15-2's utilize the newer non-porkchopped (non-tanged) barrels (and the frame to accommodate them). Also, the 15-2 has a different rear sight than the 15. Clear as mud? LOL
I'm still a bit lost as to what a 14-1 or 15-1 are.

Not so sure, but I think a 14-1 would likely been the phase between the interchangable front site on the 14's.. that is me thinking out loud. And if there was really a 14-1.
I just did some reading a post by Eric Wesson and it seems they made a new cut fixed rear and that was maybe when there was considered a 14-1...

Ese927, the 14 and 14-1 are both Porkchop models. The gun J Lee posted above is a 14-2.
This is a model 14...these had a "drift" adjustable rear sight...
The model 14-1 had a fixed rear sight...this sight style was carried over into the 14-2 model.
BTW J Lee, the grips pictured on your gun are likely originals. Of course you can swap them if you's like, but you might also want to hang onto the original.
