Hello,
I have a Dan Wesson 15-2 and while shooting it the small nub poking out above the trigger that looks like it might be some kind of stop for the cylinder fell out. I didn't notice until i was cleaning it later. After playing with the cylinder it seems to work fine and not fall off or anything. does anyone know what that nub was for and if i need to buy a new side place so it is there.

It prevents the cylinder from coming too far to the rear when the action is broken open.
From some other posts here with a similar problem I think CZ sells a replacment sideplate with the stop as a part of the plate instead of a push-in component that can fall off.

I believe you can order a new cylinder stop from DW, although it may be a couple more months before they are back up & running. They had a fire a while back & are still getting the business pulled back together. The missing piece is press-fit into the side plate, so it's simple to replace.
You could also have a new side plate made, with the integral cylinder stop, but it would require sending the gun to DW for fitment. Or if you find a replacement one on an auction site, you could have a smith fit it for you. The later style side plates with integral cylinder stops look like this...
In the meantime, your gun should function normally, you just have to hold the cylinder when you eject empty shells.
thanks for the quick responses and yeah i talked to CZ and they told me the same about the factory is there any one else that make the press in part? on the other hand my cylinder hits the frame when open so it can not slide back any further than it could when the stop was there. i filled the hole with a little silicone so dirt cant get into it for now. My only guess at this point is to have a machine shop build me a temporary until i can get the real one.

I don't think your cylinder should hit the frame when you eject. If it does with the cylinder fully open you have a bent crane and need a new one. The crane is the piece that the cylinder rides on as it swings in and out. I had the same problem on a 15-2 I bought last year. The factory replaced it and all the springs etc. for about $300. They get bent when someone snaps the cylinder closed like they do in the movies. Very bad form!

Well after talking to CZ and looking every where else i can think of i decided to just make one out of some aluminum i have laying around it took about 20 mins and now i feel a little dumb after worrying about the getting the part here is a pic of the new stop and the cylinder touching the frame when being opened fully. it's hard to see in the pic but right at the bottom of the shield for the back of the cylinder is where the cylinder is stopped from moving back. I also made the new stop a little shorter than the original because it would get in the way while ejecting rounds if the cylinder was rotated just right.
