I like 'em, nice score!occasion  Those look darker than usual, does it look like the previous owner used wood oil on them? Looks like they're in good shape from here.Laugh

Very nice dark wood grips!  I think I'll try to refinish some I have in the drawer.  Anybody know how to remove the medallions? Is that a 44 mag the are on?

This is a model 15-2 the grips are on. I don't know if the original owner used wood oil, they don't appear to have been refinished or oiled. I think the color is original. They are all but perfect but there is a slightly lighter area on the back where the palm goes. So, I think these are original, somewhat used but well kept.

Don't know though. In my limited experience I haven't seen this dark wood before.

I've never seen any DW grips that dark--Take a look inside the grip where the tang goes--see if it is raw wood, or same as the outside.

Those aren't the powerwood (plastic) grips are they?

Jaggman, to remove the medallions all you need to do is take a paper clip and push them out from the inside.

Looks like my 15 except my 4" is partial lug and would you believe the DWA never really dawned on me. The grip is not original to the gun in my case, but I like the feel of the huge grip. Mine came with Pachmayr grip which I like for shooting paper.

Here is the 744 with the combat grips from DW last year.

Not sure about that. "Powerwood??" I'll look inside and see what it looks like. How would I determine if they are plastic? They don't feel like plastic but they are light.

Ed:

You might find a paper clip inadequate.  Most of the medalions are in there pretty firmly.  If the paper clip isn't strong enough, try using an allen wrench; works for me.

Some of the grips take more muscle than finesse.  For those of you interested in getting the medallions removed without pulling out all your hair…. here is what I use.  It is an automotive cotter key puller.

It works wonders for getting the medallions out.

They are NOT the same color on the inside so they may be stained. Then again the Walnut grips I have are not the same color on the inside either. So I'm not sure it that indicates they have been stained.

Pretty sure they are NOT plastic. They appear to have been stained and looking at the inside they look like wood.
