I've got a chance at a Dan Wesson 22 revolver. It's got the 6 inch barrel, no vent rib, no heavy barrel. Not sure about box and papers. I did not handle it but it looked in real nice shape. They are asking $350 which sounded like a good deal. Is this as good a deal as I think it is? Is there anything to check for or any model types or years to avoid?
My first revolver was a Dan Wesson 15-2VH with a 6 inch barrel. Bought in brand new in 1980 or 81 for $251. Bought it because it looked like my dream gun, a Colt Python, but it was half the price. Well, that Dan Wesson was the most accurate revolver I've ever shot. Twenty five years later I finally got my Python with the 6 inch barrel. Real nice gun. But it ain't as accurate as that Dan Wesson I stupidly sold long ago. Wish I had that one back.

to the . There are no models or years to avoid that I know of. Be sure to see if they have the barrel wrench and feeler gauge and any other accessories. If it is in decent shape $350 sounds like a deal to me. Maybe not a steal but at least fair as 22s usually bring a higher price. Also lots of "wish I had that one back" stories here.

I did the deal! Got it for $325. It's a Monson gun. Came with styrofoam box and the barrel wrench. No gap guages though. Only flaw I saw was in the bluing on the right side of the frame. Some very light scratches where it looks like someone tried to close the cylinder with the ejector extended? Odd, but that's what it looks like.
Very happy with the condition of the gun. This is one heavy 22! Looking forward to taking it out to the range.

Sounds like a good deal. People who shoot my 722 always comment on how heavy it is, then I have them shoot a 715, and suddenly, they "get it".
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

That's fairly common with small frame DW's for some reason. I haven't noticed it much at all with large frame guns. I have assumed it's from using speed loaders &trying to close the cylinder too soon. I could be wrong with that guess, though.
