I just inherited a Dan Wesson 38 Special Model 10-S, s/n 21190. I'm trying to get information on this gun pertaining to value. Every gun shop I've taken it to pulls out their "Kelly Blue Book' of guns and they all show model 9 and model 11, but skip 10. I have not been able to find any info on this firearm other then some forum posts here and there that mention it is rare. Google search for me won't even pull up a pic of a Dan Wesson model 10. It instead it keeps redirecting to Smith and Wesson.
Can anyone help me with info/worth of the gun?

Ole Dog,
It's more than likely not rarer than a unicorn. If it is great, but I still want to know more about it. Yes I would like to sell it and get a good deal, but I would also love to know the history behind it. I'm not really a revolver guy. I don't want to get ripped off, but I also don't want to rip off a potential buyer. I would love honest feedback and info on possible worth. Should I leave it as is, or get it refinished?

Do not refinish. It would lose much of its collector value!
It is certainly unusual. Never seen one on the forum or elsewhere. However, unless there is some clear provenance, like - it was Dan Wesson's personal gun, then it should bring a premium of several hundred more than the typical porkchop. Highly unlikely to be worth "thousands".
Hopefully another forum member knows more about it.
You want specific information. There is none available. Records were taken by the BATF after each of Dan Wesson's bankruptcies. None of us have ever seen one and the little info available more or less implies that the number 10 was skipped over. Evidently not.
There appears to be nothing different or unusual about the gun to differentiate it from a model 14 except it is a 38 Special chambering. Perhaps that is the only difference. A fixed sight porkchop shroud in well used condition. I would estimate its value between $400 and $475. Refinishing would not return even a smidgen of the cost to reblue. I would use it and enjoy the unique accuracy that is intrinsic to Dan Wesson revolvers. They are designed to be user friendly. With an period appropriate barrel tool you can fix virtually anything that may go wrong with it. The forum can help and parts are available on eBay.

That is a special revolver. I have an addiction to Dan Wessons so I have several DWs in different calibers, however I do not have a 38 Spc. Even though I have several, I am not very knowledgeable about the diferent models. I am so thankful to this Forum that helps me understand more and more about these wonderful guns.
I have a feeling that is a "special" run gun and we may never know the reason for it. Cherish it and enjoy learning about it.

I just want to add that it being a 38 special is not what makes it rare. Models 8(fixed sight) and 9(adjustable sight) are 38 Special. They were versions of the exterior nut guns. I have a 14 with box that is 38 Special. Except for the model 10 roll mark it appears to be a 14. The serial number is consistent with a model 14.
