I assume he has a model 8 or 9 (708/709) chambered in 38 special? Several possibilities, first is its NOT one of the ones I mentioned but a 14-2/15-2 with a 38 special barrel shroud on it. Second, someone could have reamed the chambers on a 8/9 to accept 357. Third, someone could have had a different cylinder installed. As far as pros and cons, mostly cons. The 8/9 models are fairly uncommon and command higher prices than the 14/15's so to modify one would devalue it. The guns are basically the same other than chambering and shroud markings.
