Just picked up a new to me Dan Wesson 44. The barrel looks like it has never been cleaned to the point that the barrel tool will not fit into the barrel to remove the barrel nut. Any suggestions as to how to get the fouling out of the barrel to allow the barrel tool to fit? Thanks.

I would first try soaking w/cleaner and brush it real good, also measure the tool pilot and make sure it's round. And maybe measure barrel and make sure it's not a 41
Measued the bore. Does indeed look to be a 41 barrel. Glad I inspected thoroughly before going to the range. Thanks for your help.

DB you need to do some close checking. In theory a 41 barrel will not fit a 44 frame so you may have a 41 revolver with a 44 shroud. The shrouds will interchange, the barrels are not supposed to. Will 44 mag ammo fit the cylinder? Also the serial number "may" have the letter C at the front if it is a 41 mag. Good luck and keep us informed.
