Thanks to vertex for posting the pictures.
Much appreciated.
Question: Is it a shooter, or should it stay a safe queen?
Blued guns here on the coast of AK don't hold up too well, we use weapons hard and they get real salty and wet.
I bought it to lug around on Kodiak but replaced it with the SS S&W 50, trying to figure out what to do with the DW.
Thanks.

If I were going to be in harsh, damp, conditions that included salty water, I would certainly go with stainless steel. It's just more practical. You might see if you can work a trade for a stainless model if you want to shoot it or keep it as a safe queen. I personally don't keep anything that I'm not going to shoot unless it was such a rare gun that it would be a sure bet to appreciate significantly.

Exactly jertex.
I would feel bad destroying/over working a weapon of any significance, but if it's just a decent weapon and deserves to be used, it'll brought out and put into the carry bag on the boat.
We use blued guns all the time, clean them as best we can, but I replaced the wood grip with the Hogue monogrip for that reason.
It has a lousy trigger IMO, so finding someone to help with that will become a priority.
Thanks again

I'm struck by the S/N?????? I have an early model, the first DW44 I saw after they came out, and it has a regular series of numbers.
Bad trigger? On a DW? Take that sucker apart and see if something is wrong with it like dried up grease or? My DWs have always had pretty good triggers. I've got a Ruger SRH 480 and let me tell you about a lousy trigger!
Please see my posting about my Diamond D chest holster (Wasilla, AK). They also make a hip holster with a partial flap. I'm thinking about getting a couple of them for my 44 in 4VH and 6VH. They seem to understand the difference between V and VH. The flap would give some protection.
I keep a lot of RIG grease on my blue guns while in the safe and only take the SS toys (don't own any DWs in SS) out in the bad weather.
I've been out of shooting for some time while we did our move to AK. Shooting the DW44 sure put a smile on my face when I took it to the range!

I suspect this was a custom serial number, DW did a lot of that back in the day. Probably the initials of the original owner. Merely a speculation though. Nice looking hog leg!
