Hi all!
I finally completed the last piece of my .44mag setup. -- The case. I was surprised when I found that the pieces slide around on the inside. So....here's a dumb question. Is the case designed to put the gun/barrels under the velvet mat and actually directly into the foam underneath? Or is it designed to put the gun on top of the velvet mat and maybe my foam insert is just tired?

I'd say your foam may be a little tired. You can lift it and add another thin layer. the top layer should be trimmed so the frame and BA's lay into a groove, but on top of the cover. I did this lift to mine and it turned out nice.

In the same way that I am "tired", you Pack foam is too. The stuff in your Pack has been sliding and sloshing around for a lot of years.
The good stuff goes on top of the fabric.
The Pack Case is meant to showcase the greatest modern revolver known to Man!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Hoekma, I agree with these guys, your foam may be a little tired...plus, it appears that someone has cut out some "non-factory" reliefs of their own. Just my guess from your pic. You will get a better idea of what's going on by pulling the lower fabric & looking for yourself.
For example my own custom cut foam from a few years ago still holds things nice-n-tight...
