Hello.

I have just purchased a 715 .357 in 6" and 4". I am now looking for a holster to shoot IDPA. Does the S&W K frame holsters fit the Dan Wesson? Also Blade Tech sells only the .44 mag. Dan wesson holster. Will that fit the 715?

Thank you for your help.

Howdy Darb,

I can't shed a lot of light on that, but check Part Two of this article in American Handgunner (1978).  Masaad Ayoob talks specifically about K-Frame Holsters and the model 15 on page 43.

You can find this article under the files tab at the top of the forum.

Bein' how you're the proud new owner of a fine Stainless Dan Wesson Handgun, we might like to have you as a member here on the ol' forum...Smile

Thanks, Logging out and in again worked. Also thank you for the arcticle. Looking at the Colt Python and K frame I think the Python is the better match. The only thing I am worried about is the cylinder release hatch on the 715 is before the cylinder. For a Kydex holster that may be an issue. Any experiences with Kydex for the 715?

I have no direct experience with Kydex, but if it's a conventional design I would not be worried.  That article has a funny line about not using spring front holsters (because they can pop the cylinder release due to the forward motion) - so I would stay away from them.  Otherwise I would not have a concern with Kydex in a revolver mold.

Wait for a few of the other members to weigh in on this one.

The 715 will NOT fit in the Fobus LK 4 Kydex holster.

The shroud is too big and the cylinder latch keeps it from seating.

I have been able to use most leather and cloth holsters made for the K and l frames but I have not tried any of the high end fitted ones.

I'm not familiar with the Kydex, is that a shoulder or waist holster?

I was looking around for shoulder holsters last weekend & found this Galco with the DW Model 15 4" & 6" barrels on their application list, if you're interested...

Thanks for the replies! I will look at the Safariland 567 paddle or belt holster. I am using it for IDPA so it must meet thier criteria. Kydex is a plastic material used in Bladetech etc. companies holsters. I have 3 of them for other pistols and they are fantastic IMHO. I doesn't look like I will be able to use them for my 715 though.Frown

Bumping an older thread...

I'm hunting for a paddle holster to fit my 715, any news on this discussion?  Anyone know if the Safariland 567 paddle works well?

I'm not sure Safariland is even making the 567 any longer....

I found this one though, the 568.  I wonder if the 4" Colt Python version would fit...

You do not see a lot of holster makers list models for DW's although those who do usually list the same holsters for a python. Good luck.

I purchased one of these…unfortunately they are backordered about every where I've looked that has them for a decent price.  Yell

I'll post up pics of the fit and finish and how it works with the 715 when...or if...it arrives.
