Has anyone Taken apart A Dan Wesson. I have 6 Dan Wesson Revolvers. I Have removed barrels several times but I just bought A Model 14 2 1/2 inch. It is pretty rusty and needed A really good cleaning. I took it completely apart. I am very pleased with the engineering and construction of Dan Wesson Revolvers. The gun shot great As aspected. The only thing Was I set the barrel clarins at .006 and after a couple of shots the cylinder got tight. So I adjusted again but have not shot the gun cents then. Any Thoughts.

One potential trouble spot when reassembling a DW revolver is the correct positioning of the hand/pawl mechanism.  The rebound bar must be pushed down (toward the trigger guard) when installing the hand/pawl.  Failure to do this will keep the hand/pawl from seating all the way and it will bind on the sideplate when it is re-installed.  In effect, the hand/pawl will be cocked at an angle instead of being straight up and down.

Don't know that this is your particular problem but it easy to remove the sideplate and double-check it.

The .006" cylinder clearance is within recommended specs and should not be part of the problem unless you have excessive end-shake.  To check for this, dry fire the revolver and keep the trigger held rearward.  Try and pull the cylinder forward with the other hand.  If the cylinder face touches the forcing cone then you have an end-shake problem.  Did the gun shoot without problems before the disassembly?  If you didn't fire the gun before working on it then it might just be a problem child that a former owner dumped on the market.

I had a similiar problem with my model 40, but the gap is .002 and upon calling DW; I was told the older models, prior to Norwich were heat treated after boring and grinding and the treating would cause a slight uneveness to the front of the cylinder and to check for a high spot and set the gap on that cylinder.  Mine was off .0015+ enough to bind after a few rounds; set to high cylinder and has shot great even with uneven gaps.  Norwich faced their cylinders after heat treating.
