I threw a very low bid on this Dan Wesson First Issue 44 magnum with a 10VH barrel. It has a small scope on it mounted with a screw and also using the rear site spot to anchor. First, I can't believe I got it for $1035 and $30 shipping no CC fees. I did not really want it since I figured the shroud is tapped and drilled but never did I think it was going to sell for that! Anyway I guess I can go 2 ways. One take the small scope off, plug the hole and put a rear site back on the gun or second I was thinking of buying a Burris scope (stainless) and trying to find a Dan Wesson factory style scope mount and put a Burris scope on it like it was mounted at the factory! I know I would have to drill another hole to do it and then it would be a hunter pac look a like. Just an idea it's like putting a coyote engine in a 67 mustang! LOL  I did look and I can get a older style Burris 2X pistol scope  for $160 or less. Screenshot-2025-02-03-3.07.15-AM.pngImage Enlarger

That scope is the reason it didn't bring a lot.  I think they drilled the top strap of the frame too.  Even if they didn't, being a First Issue, the numbered shroud preclude matching it with another.  I had a low bid on it too, but that scope turned me off on it.  I have the same gun with no scope so I didn't 'need' it.

Had i got it, I was going to put a scope on it that I have laying around.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Pull the scope off and plug the holes.  Use the correct screw plugs (6-48)>>

You can bead blast the screws to match the top strap or barrel rib and they look fine.  Make sure you use the "Positive Stop" screws to plug the holes.

Well I am going to try first to replicate a factory sight install! I  found a Burris scope 2X reflex similar to my 32-20 Hunter PAC. then I found the correct Burris mount that's just like the factory ones.  finally the scope rings i'm not sure to get regular, medium or tall I guess I will try the shout ones. Any thoughts? Now what's the chance that the holes already drilled into the gun and shroud will line up with the new mount? The mount does have more than one screw hole I guess if it came down to it I could drill the new mount to line up with the holes already drilled? What do you think? About $250 invested in this I can always re-sell the scope and hardware if it does not work out and get my money back. I noticed these Burris scopes go for $$$$ so would be no problem recouping my $$$ but thought I would give it a try. If not I will take the DakotaJack route!Screenshot-2025-02-05-7.38.39-AM-2.pngImage Enlarger
