Good Evening,

I was reading the article in the American Handgunner that Popgun posted about which discusses the different types of grips that came with the revolver.  I thought it might be of interest to folks who might not have read the article.  Below is a picture of the different types of grips.

Yes thanks of the mention. I have all three plus the service style small grips (my favorite).

I have the Target style, but with no checkering or medallion. I've never seen one with this grip, and the photo's always show a checkered style. Anyone else have this type?

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

yes, we used to have and sell, both  the checkered and the smooth...as well as the smaller 'service' grips and also the 'Pachmayr' brand ,(rubber baby buggy bumpers....)

Keep in mind, they also offered a "plain" inletted ,block of walnut, to cut your own grips out of....I was looking around to try and find oner that I had laying around, and it is 'hiding' from us...........

the factory did "try" and offer what the buying public may have wanted........

New member here.  Dan Wesson model 15-2 owner for 30 years.  Mine came with the target grips that was just too large for my small hands.  Just recently purchased a used service style small grip and noticed that the target grip screw is too long for it (makes the trigger action bind).  Does anyone know if a shorter length gripscrew is available for the service style small grip, and if so, where can it be bought?

You could always take the screw down to the hardware store and match the threads up to a shorter screw, the only difference is the head will be a different size and the washer will not be attached to the screw. With this you might need to make the hole larger in the grip for the washer to fit.

Here's two additional types of grips for the Dan Wesson's.  I picked these up yesterday at a pawn shop for $20.  I already have a set of the rounded grips but have never seen the other before:

I have never seen this logo before either....

Yeah…looking for the grippers.  Hogues aren’t really any the same league IMHO.  The monogrips anyway...they make some realy nice wood grips.

Thanks, though.

I have Pachmayr Target or Presentation on mine and a spare set of Houge in the safe as a back up or trading material. I am going to order some target grips from DW in near future.

Had a gun dealer (Summit Guns) email me a picture of a early 15 with pork chop shroud and unvented with grip E installed. Pretty rough gun.

I was just out on CZ\\DW's site and found the following grips listed.   These look really cool!  They are listed for $85 which is sort of pricey but I think I have to have a set!

Hey all.. am new to DW revolvers.. but am in love with it and the concept .. lol]

I just got a set of  Hogue grips and that inletted block of walnut that Mr. dant mentioned in his post.. I had no idea I was getting a literal block of wood.. hahahaha.. but that's what this is ..a block of wood with holes drilled in it

I don't know where to start !!  In whittling class in the boy scouts I'm the guy that  always wound up with the pointy stick.. and it broke !! So I guess I'll just hang onto it and let my kid have it when he inherits the empire when I'm gone... lol.

Just a note that the short grip screw that fits the service grip is available from Priscilla at Dan Wesson for $2.95 + $10 to ship.

Hardware store item won't get the job done as the DW screw uses a one size larger head than a standard hex head screw of equivalent thread.  This is so the screw has enough shoulder to match up to the countersink shelf in the grip.

Also, a guy on Gunbroker is selling new "old stock" of the old Hi Standard walnut service grips.

Funny note on the grip blank Panther!!

A possible solution to the hardware store grip screw is to use a small washer to take up the diameter to the right size. My short grip screw came with one, I'm not sure that it is factory original, but it works. Those grip screws are often an Ebay item.

Oldies didn't have the washer but the new ones from DW do come with a washer.

Thanks for the heads up on eBay.

The hardware store version is just a bit inconvenient in that the DW hex wrench won't fit because it's the smaller head.

If you can find a local "Fastenal" distributor, they advertise that they can find/make any screw, bolt, etc. There is one next door to the range I shoot at, and they have come up with a couple of "work around" parts for me.

I'm familiar with Fastenal - but never thought of them for "gun parts"!

Great suggestion, thanks Steve!
