I am looking at buying a beautiful 3" barreled .357 Magnum Dan Wesson Model 14 which has the fixed rear sight. It was made in the very early 1980's at the Monson plant. He is asking a little over $400 for the gun, box and tools.
What opinions of this gun do ya'll have? How does it compare to the Ruger GP-100? How tough is this gun?

Dan Wessons are every bit as strong as Rugers. I f the gun is in very good condition that is about the right price. Usually 357's go for from $300 to $350 in blue and $50 more for stainless, tool and gauge sets now cost $46 plus shipping from CZ, so you're in the ball park if its in very good shape.

Hey Southern Shooter,
Email the photo to files@danwessonforum.com and I'll post it for you. Looking forward to seeing the pictures. We don't have to many of the 14 posted.

The barrel tool for the 14 and 15 are the same and the cylinder gap is the same; 006. Ebay still has barrel tools and the older styles can usually be had for $20 or so and you can use a standard feeler gauge for the cylinder gap or get the new barrel tool allen wrenches and gauge from CZ. If you don't have the owner's manual; I have a spare Palmer edition that covers from the 22 to the 15 series, including the 14 and I'll send it free.
Here are pictures of Southern Shooter's model 14:
Here is a link to a PDF of the owners manual which is listed under files.

I picked up the gun. It is as pretty as the pictures show. It had only been shot half a box of rounds by the prior owner. But, PROBLEM !!! Took it to the range. Fired 2 cylinders of .38 Special +P and 2 of .357 Magnum. Worked fine. Then it started to hang up when trying to rotate the cylinder. It binds.
When the cylinder is open it rotates fine. The trigger action works fine. But, when the cylinder is closed it will not rotate either by squeezing the trigger or cocking the hammer.
What is the deal???

Check the cylinder gap. 006 is factory but can be less. Hold it up to a light and work the action to see if it drags. (unloaded of course) If this is it, a simple cleaning and gap set will fix you up. If you need them, there are instructions elsewhere in this forum. If thats not the issue check the timming. Anyway good luck.
