Have several Dan Wesson Model 15's, seem to keep picking them up because I want the extra barrels and can't find the barrel without acquiring a new gun. (And this is a bad thing, you ask ??? LOL). Anyway, latest acquisition was for a hunter pac with a 2", 4" and 12" barrel and I was so pleased with the 12" barrel that I didn't even notice until I got home that the cylinder was unfluted.
Its the only one I have ever seen like that, did see just the cylinder on e-bay a long time ago where the guy claimed it was one of two made that way. Yeah, right.
I have been told it is uncommon, I have been told they are as common as dirt. Not sure what to believe.
Anyone else ever see an unfluted cylinder on a Model 15. It's a Monson, Mass gun, serial number is 341xxx which is probably close to the end of the Monson factory. Any information would be appreciated

Hey Dan,
Thanks for joining the group. I've only gotting into purchasing DW's in the last couple of years and have never seen a 15 with an unfluted cylinder. There is a model 745 on GunBroker with one that I would love to have but just a little out of my price range.
Post some pictures when you have time. I would be interested in seeing it.
I've seen unfluted stainless models also but never a blued one. Since it's a later Monson model I have wondered if it could have been just kinda rushed out at the last minute but don't know enough about the steps in manufacturing to say whether that's possible.
Tried to do photos, wouldn't take, must be doing something wrong

I have seen 357's in blue and stainless with unfluted cylinders, they are less common.
I think it was due too when DW was in the thick of making guns for IHMSA shooting everyone was worried about keeping the guns under the weight limits so it was just more common to take off as much metal as possible, (just a thought no proof).
I love the look of an unfluted cylinder, the only one I have is the 460 Supermag.

Thanks Dave. I'm still not sure but what it might have been just a special order that way although the brochure I have with one of the other guns (dated April 1, 1977) does not show anything except fluted cylinders, even on the factory engraved guns you could order.
Just as a point of interest, the suggested retail for a 15" Vent Heavy barrel and shroud was $238.35 in 1977. The extra interchangeable colored front sight blades were 80 cents each. Now we know why there are so few 15" barrels out there!!
Also, made a mistake with the photo, the unfluted cyl is second from the top not the bottom.

JB, nice picture..................
yes, there were non fluted cylinders available but on a special order basis and we did not see too many of them... I still have one left over from when we did work for the factory years ago, back in the early, mid 70's. I will dig it out tomorrow and take some pictures of this cylinder. It is of a 'high ' polish blue......................
I have not seen one on any guns for sale or at any of the gun shows in all these years, so they are NOT "common" by any means...................
