I am looking at a dan wesson w12 with serial no. 2XX. the bluing on the frame is a matte finish and the barrel and cylinder are a high lustre finish. the gun is 98% condition. Has anyone seen this in the first production dan wessons, maybe a production error or it was just reblued. Thanks
I wouldn't think your gun was sent from the factory that way. I know the later model 14 (fixed sight service model) has a matted blue finish and the model 15 (target model) had the high gloss blue.
At first I though that's what we were talking about. It's possible to have shroud from a 14 on a 15 but since the cylinder and frame are different not sure what's going on...

Truthfully, we're not as good on Model 12's as we would like to be. They're not real common, even here, and this is a sort of gray area.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Can you provide a photo. What you are describing may be the barney effect. The Barney effect is where parts of the gun turn a sort of plumb color after time. Does the matte part have a plumb hue to it?
Wisdom is merely the realization of how little one knows, therefore I am wise.
