I've not paid a lot of attention but this SN grabbed my attention. I've not see the caliber in front on a 15-2, before this. Maybe I'm inattentive???

I don't have a clue on the S/N, but that looks to be a nice frame. I understand the seller is trying to make $$ parting it out but that one looks too nice to have been split up. Maybe I'm missing something.
(Note to self. Don't buy things from RiverDodger just because I don't like to see a pretty Dan split up.)

I think this was towards the very end of Monson .. they went to that numbering scheme. Look at the DWF registry and you will see its later guns ( 91 -29) there is also a 22S000xxx gun on there.
Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box
in that order.
4 Monson Model 15's
1 Palmer FB 15
1 Rossi 357 Model 92 (lever)
1 CZ 75B

I have seen the calibers marked as the prefix to the serial number, just never on a 357 before. Learn something new every day; like yesterday I learned that just because a police station has a short-ton of detonation cord in their basement and just becuase a few of the recovered IEDs in the area use that same det. cord, doesn't NECESSARILY mean it came from the police...

Ya know, there's gotta be a better way to learn things like these…just give me time, I'll figure it out…! In the meantime, keep yer head down.
Still thinking…
…in the meantime, I seem to have once again become sidetracked on DW s/n's.
Yep, Ron, I feel that Steve's got it fairly close thus far, with his current list of Registry numbers. (Look at pg. 6) This looks like a typical late 80's/early 90's serial number… However, looking at some of the pics makes me believe that some of the bluing has been buffed off the frame! Good grief, say it aint' so!!

I believe the lack of blueing is actually a reflection from sunlight comming through a window in the back light. but I could be

You're probably right. Whew, I was worried there for a minute.
Dang, that's one great looking example of "ancestoral bluing", then.

I guess in this case, the police are not your friends!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Please allow me throw out a complete WAG on this:
I think it's possible that when ownership changed and production moved to Palmer, previously manufactured frames were re-numbered by adding a "357" to the existing S/N. This would probably have been done because the original S/N was already recorded with BATF as the product of a now defunct manufacturer. By adding a "357" it could become the product of a new company, and that "357" looks a lot like a very well done die-strike addition to me.

I'll but into that theory. Of course, that would mean that for a time, the Palmer plant would have been shipping guns with the Monson roll mark. I wonder if the BATF would have any issue with that?
Your theory could also partly explain why a number of large frame Monson guns seem to have been shipped with Palmer shrouds...like the 44 I've got, for example.

You can engrave anything you want on a gun, look at all the custom engraving that happens on AR receivers. The big guys make them and put the "subcontractors" name on them. As a manufacturer I think maybe the new Dan Wesson could start a new S/N series by simply adding "357" to the beginning of existing S/N's.

I admit that I haven't followed the AR custom marking (or most other manufacturers) nearly as closely as DW's, so I will earnestly jump on board with this idea. Steve, I think you may really be onto something here & may finally have a concrete reason for the "caliber addition".
Now if we (okay, you) can get Seth, Carol, or Seth Jr. to sign off on this, then we are golden!
