I was looking at a DW model 14-2 in a LGS today and while it looked nice and all, I wasn't sure about a few things. I wondered if it had been re-blued and if it had any work done to it.
I wish I had taken a picture of it but didn't think about it at the time. Here's what made me question it. It looked NICE! I mean black, not purple at all and everything was in nice shape. As best as I could tell (not an authority on this at all) the stamping was still nice and crisp and the edges were still nice and sharp so, even with the 14's duller finish (not high gloss), would that still count as a tell-tale sign?
Also, the hammer and trigger were REALLY black as well. I checked my early M14 and it has a black trigger and hammer as well so, that one was just me on a witch hunt. But, the hammer had a cross-hatch on the thumb pad where mine has a flat line going vertically with the hammer. Did they change the pattern on the hammer pads throughout production?
The price is negotiable but I just wanted to know more about what I'm negotiating. It has a 4-inch bbl and all the finish on all parts looks very uniform (side plate, frame, cylinder and barrel are all VERY black.) I don't see that as a problem, just trying to learn more about these critters. And, if I learn it BEFORE a purchase, that helps even more. Thanks for any info!
