Just got them.  Medallions seem to be made of plastic. there's remnants of silver coating on one. Are these from the Palmer "Wesson Arms" days? Were they supposed to be silver?IMG_2720.JPGImage Enlarger

They are from the days of porkchops. Not the earliest, but probably 1972 to 74. The grips are plastic called "Powerwood". They date from those years. Not the best idea in DW history

Interesting,Ol'Dog.  A very timely response, as l was gonna refinish em over the weekend and probably ruin them. They did look a little odd....oh well. In the drawer they go. Guess I'm now looking for an old naked pork chop. Thanks for the information.

good info from ole dog, and they are "early on" when we were there in 73 they y were already changing, seems like some carry over from the HoighSatnadard days,,,others like Colt  called theirs "Coltwood" and Ruger early Bearcats of 1958 were "Wonderwood" ,,poured polymers to make them appear to be wood, good early grips to hang onto, may become "collectible" to some........heck back then they even had blocks of wood, just "Inletted" to fit the frame of the gun and you could make your own shaped wood grips....some like that smaller grip you show, also for the short barreled ( 2 1/2 inch) guns for "carry"

Awesome insight, dant. Perhaps they were supposed to be able to absorb a hit or being dropped without chipping better than the wood grips. The only hope now is for these things to become collectible and worth $5 more than the $20 l paid .mad

I think you'd find that they would be worth more than that on the table, I recall getting $30-35 for ours in the spring............I cannot keep ANY DWA grips on the table, they sell..........wink
