Any thoughts?  recently acquired.  Still trying to figure out what I have.  My question to the dan wesson guru's on this forum is.  Does this appear to be a factory custom order, or something someone had done on their after original purchaseWESSON.jpgImage Enlarger

I have an engraved Dan Wesson that is identical to brochures I have of factory engraving. It is very different from the picture you post. That is not definative. There is little providence available.

Check your gun carefully for an engraver's mark. That may give you a clue. The mark on mine is at the bottom of the crane, on the hinge area. It is for Ken Hurst.  See photo:

Thank you.   So, if it was done in house. I should expect to find an engravers mark?

I don't think Dan Wesson engraved guns are signed. There is very little providence to be found because the BATF impounded all their records after each bankruptcy. There is a style that is represented in some of their sales brochures back in the Monson days. The first 250 44 mags were engraved in a very modest way that is not representative of the deep engraving of the small frame guns. The barrels were engraved close to the frame and at the muzzle except if it was full engraving. They had 25%,50%,75% and 100% coverage options. Yours is definately not factory IMHO. . Very nice though.

Sorry Nick. I meant that if it was not factory engraved there should be an engraver's mark.embarassed

I forgot. no engravers marks on mine.  I know that if i had the skill set to engrave, I'd want to advertise it!
