Good day all,

I have a model 715 that I bought used a couple of months ago that I seem to be having issues with.

When I fire the pistol in SA, it's shoots great.

The hammer cocks all the way back and release nicely, fires every time.

When I fire in DA, the hammer doesn't seem to pull back (cock) as far back as when it's cocked for a SA shot.

The result is that I often have soft strikes.

I haven't taken it apart for a full cleaning yet and plan to do so over the holidays (I hope that will solve the problem but I don't think so).

Question...

1) Is there an adjustment for the trigger pull so I can have the hammer cock back a little further? (presumably, I'll be increasing the trigger pull weight in double action)

Any light shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

It's the only issue with an otherwise exceptional pistol.

Thanks!!

M

Hello and welcome to the forum. The grip screw is sometimes a little to tight, back off a half turn or so and see if that fixes it. The face of the cylinder may not be square, set your cylinder gap a thousanths or two more open. Others here are more familiar with this and may have other advice. Merry Christmas! R

Start with the grip screw.  There are two lengths depending on what grip you have. Sometimes a long screw is used in a grip that needs the short screw.  Owners over tighten the screw and it interferes with the main spring causing light strikes.  Over tightening a regular screw can also cause light strikes in DA.   I'd totally remove the screw and try it, if it still malfunctions, then you know it's not the screw.  Try that and let us know how it works.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

I had similar symptoms one time and it turned out to be my cylinder ball screw that came loose and was interfering with the hammer being able to be fully cocked.  It must have been wedged just right, as it acted like yours for a while, allowing SA only more or less, until that screw finally fell into the bottom of the frame.  I cleaned it up, screwed it back in and haven't had an issue since.

Thanks Guys, All great recommendations, I'll make that adjustment and go try it out tomorrow

I think that'll be my holiday plan...complete disassembly and adjustment to the main spring upon reassembly.

I was concerned that in trying to lighten the trigger, the previous owner may have ground something down inside the trigger assembly, won't know that until I take it apart but it should be fairly obvious if they did.

I'll post an update next week when I get to it.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas to all and Happy Shooting!!

SCORPIO has it- here's an explanation.

Thanks for this link, I have a Rubber Hogue Grip on it and this could very well be the culprit.

I'll adjust and post a follow up.

Thanks!
