I have a few Dan Wesson revolvers and really like them.   I'm considering a 14-2, 2 1/2" in excellent condition but don't see many out there.   Any idea value so I know what to pay - lol.   If I get I can post - it's a beauty.

Thanks!

Fixed sight DWs used to bring about 20%  less than the 15-2. Today it is less of a discount. $475 to 625 depending on condition. A tool is $50 extra. Box $40 extra. Polished blue instead of a matte finish is $50 more.

Thanks!   It is a lower number than I've seen when I can find one.  116xx.  Monson.  Appears to be polished blue.  Very faint turn line.   Nice grips - I believe they are referred to as pork chop?   I just like snubs and Dan Wesson/S&W.

Yours would be a model 14, not a 14-2. They go for less than a 14-2 but they have the short throw hammer. Actually, it is a short throw trigger.

Barrel assemblies on earlier models had the pork chop shape.  14-2 had adjustable rear sights, 14 had non-adjustable, I believe.

I was under the Impression, 14 and 15's were Pork Chops..14 Fixed Sight, 15 Adjustable sight.. The 14-2 and 15-2, were Not Pork chop shrouds..but still 14-2 fixed, 15-2 adjustable. I do Not recall front sight inserts on the 14's...or is that Paint??

that short front sight definitely goes with the 14-2,,,fixed being a lower front sight...Far as I knew...But, decidedly Not Expert

I've searched the internet for my pistol and found about 10 that are exact matches.  7 called it a 14-2 and 3 called it a 14 - lol.

But none had a serial number this low or even close.   Most were in the 30000+ range.    I'll keep digging.

Thanks!

And my bad on serial number, I looked quick and missed a digit.  It's actually 1165xx.  Thanks!

As I dig in more on this pistol, I find contradicting information everywhere - lol.   I originally thought this was a "pork chop" and a few people pointed out it was not, that the barrel is not the "pork chop" style.

Then I'm cruising gb and find my exact pistol - again, much higher serial number - and gentleman calls it a "rare" 14-2 porkchop (I know rare is one of the most overused words on gb and other sites) - lol.

So now continuing to research - most info. points to it being a 14-2 not 14 but still not 100%.

Info. I have been told says it is not a pork chop despite this gb saying it is:

357 Dan Wesson Snubnose S&W Model 14 Pork Chop Revolver Colt Lawman M&P C&R - Revolvers at GunBroker.com : 1044073984

Confusing, but having fun digging in.

Unfortunately, sellers on GB are notorious for incorrectly stating the model of a Dan Wesson.  I mean most of them!  There was a thread recently about a GB seller stating his DW pistol was a “stainless plated” pistol.  No such thing.

Likewise, never let a gunsmith work on your Dan, they typically mess them up.  These are not S&W pistols and many smiths treat them as such and damage them.

This Forum is the defacto authority on Dan Wessons.  Ole Dog is a resident expert on this site as well as many others.  If Ole Dog says it’s a 14, I believe it’s a 14.  There are members on here who have decades of experience with DWs.    I’ve owned Dans since 2013 and I feel like a newb compared to many on this forum.

I said it was a 14 based on a serial number of 116xx. But it is not a porkchop, and the serial number is 116xxx. Definately a 14-2. Circa 1976. It is a matte finish, not bright blue.

It's paint.   I'm removing it today 🙂   And I still have not been able to find another similar DW posted anywhere with this low a serial number, even after my blunder missing a digit.

I used my favorite rag on the gun and it polished up nice - Cape Cod Cloth.  My friend that owns the local gunshop recommended it because he collects watches and they are the go to for them but for any metal.  Works great especially on stainless!

I figured that guy was incorrect - I sent him an email asking if he had any info. he'd like to share that I was looking for info..  We'll see if he writes back!

Next DW purchase will be a pistol pack.  Have always wanted but like everything else, prices are going up every day.   My friend has one, but not willing to part with it yet - lol.

Thanks for all the info. all!

14-2s have a fixed front sight and no plastic inserts. That would be paint.

FYI, The dash 2s, 14-2 and 15-2, debuted at serial number 50,000 in 1974. The interchangable colored insert front sights started around serial number 75,000. The 14 and 15 share the same serial number sequence. So, there are many guns older than yours.

About paint, or as I use, fingernail polish.. some colors grab your eye, without you really seeing color, I put some "hippie" orange on an H&R 32L, while I do Not consciously See the "color" my eye picks up that front sight naturally.. Now I gotta remember who I bummed that from!!!Prolly a Daughter in law!!
