Hi, newbie here, I just bought a near perfect DW 15-2 Monson MA. with 6 inch barrel this past weekend at a gun show. After a good cleaning I noticed lines/streak's/scratches in the barrel rifling. I took it to a trusted gunsmith and was told that this was normal finish for this model, he has seen it before on DW's. Smith also said it would not affect accuracy and would clean up with a 1000 rounds of lead ammo. Anyone else seen this and will barrel finish smooth up after shooting some lead.

Welcome Blacktop.
I wish I could answer your question but I've never seen it before. However, there a lot of guys here who are way more knowledgeable than I am. You are going to love your new gun. There will be more of them in your future. DWAS is just around the bend, waiting for you.
How about posting some .

Welcome to DWF, please stop by the New Members Area and tell us more about yourself, and show us some pictures of your new DW. I haven't encountered the problem you describe. I'd try shooting it and see if it's a problem. The good news is, you can easily replace the barrel for about $80 if neccessary.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thanks Steve,
I will do that and will get some pics up tomorrow. I shot a half box as soon as I got the gun and it seemed to group well, Not sure what to call it, maybe machine or tool marks. I have 5 other revolvers, most look mirror smooth except a Taurus 38 snub that has a little bit of simular marks. Best example I can give is swabing a barrel with a oil soaked patch and the streaks the oil would leave before you dry patch. The Smith I took it to is one of the good old timers( Sportsman's Haven/Umberger Stocks) and he said he saw it alot on the older DW's and said it would never affect groups. Just like to know if anyone else has seen this with a Like New model 15 and how many rounds of lead it took to smooth things out.
Smith said 1000 rnds $$$ ouch !

Welcome aboard blacktop. Congrats on the new acquisition. I don't see the problem with the tool marks if she groups well it will smooth up eventually. If It just bugs you I suppose you could fire lap the barrel. I don't know much about the process but I know rifle shooters sometimes do it to shoot in a barrel, don't see why it wouldn't work on a wheel gun. Someone should chime in soon who can tell you the full scoop.

I have a Marlin 444 SS with the ballard rifling that has those hideous tool marks. I started looking around and found Bear Tooth Bullets. They have some wild bullets and loadings. But in that article they said to fire lap the bore. They also sell kits to do this. As I have never tried this I do not know if it is all B.S. or not, But they sell these kits for most calibers if anybody wants to try it.
