Hi guys, couple day lurker, new member. Just bought a Dan Wesson Model 44-6HV, ported. It's one of the Monson,MA guns, Blued. Thanks to you gentlemen, I already ordered a Wrench for it from EWK and have downloaded the owners' manual. This gun needs a reblue. As soon as I figure out how to post here from Photobucket, I'll drop some pics. Oh, S/N is B02191X

Let's see if I can do this; Oh, see that second line on the Cylinder? It's rubbing against the frame on the leftside, I gotta dress that down before it gets reblued.

Thanks for showing off your new arrival.cool-pics

It's odd that the cylinder is rubbing the frame. Judging from some of the other marks on the cylinder, I wonder if it has been dropped or squashed by something? If so, it may have bent the crane a little, causing the rear of the cylinder to move off center.

I thought about that charger Fan. Can't tell if the crane is bent, nice straight seam going up the front where it meets. I did notice though, that the Crane looks alot better than the surrounding steel. I'll take a few pics so you guys can look.

BTW, got an E-mail from Mark, bluing is $95.00 plus I pay shipping both ways. He also does repairs, I'll have him look at it.

Doesn't look to be rubbing anywhere. Held it up to a strong light and slowly turned the Cylinder, can't see any contact when roating over the bottom of the cylinder-window. Just realized…forgot to check the top! I'll take a look.

Edit: Nope, not contacting anything! Maybe I did luck out! Be nice. Oh BTW, finally got my EWK wrench, non-ported barrel! WOHOO! Shroud is ported.

Most shrouds were ported in the 44.  gives you some options!   Glad it all worked out!

Just a thought, wonder if Eric could fill the holes on a ported barrel ?

or even if it would be cost effective vs buying a barrel ?

I'm not an expert but to me it looks like the rear detent ball isn't holding the cylinder true. One of my DW 44s got oil and dirt inside and wouldn't seat properly. the firing pin holes on the cartridges were all over the place. Found another that had been fired a lot that had the detent ball "flattened" (but just on one side!!).

Read your post, checked the ball and the accompanying hole in the Star. All is fine, gun is heading out to Blueridge Bluing Monday.
