Okay Guys, was installing rubber grips on the piece and over tightened the screw.  Even with the screw backed out, no single action.  I'm thinking that a spring is compressed.

Any assistance, would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Take the grip off and see if the mainspring seat has twisted loose....

It does function in DA.  The main spring looks to be okay.  I can see some compression on the "U" shaped bar spring.

Not familiar with the "u shaped bar spring". Can you provide a photo?

This is the only thing I can think of that sounds close...

If so, that's what holds the trigger group into the frame. Capt Hank, maybe look at THIS THREAD to see if anything there helps.

Update on my problem in single action mode.  Sent it back to Dan Wesson.  Gunsmith called and said that it was the hammer.  I told him to replace the hammer, replace all springs and adjust the trigger pull to 3 lbs.  They also added a 0.004 head space shim.  I got the 741 back today.  They did an excellent job.  The price, $185.95.

Sometimes the solution is neither cheap nor easy. If you are happy, All Is Well!

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

3 weeks, $185 bucks and a functioning weapon that has had a once over by DW.  I'd say you are good to go! Go shoot that puppy!
