I'm sorry, but these things do nothing for me. If you are going to have a flash hider on something with a short barrel, do it up right.
They were originally intended (and still are) to replace the external nuts on the older DW's… You NEVER see a spare external nut for DW's up for grabs anywhere. As long as Eric was turning them out, he made one to accomodate both shroud types.
To each his own–some will find them cool, some have other views

Man, I just don't understand. So many claim to be purists when in comes to your DWs, but bolt on an aftermarket shroud (which I do't find all that attractive; only my opinion - buy as many as you can afford) and a modified AR15 fltheirash hider and all of the sudden it's tits.
It reminds me of restoring old cars. The guy with the wrong white walls gets dinged by the purest, but the guy that cuts a hole in the hood and puts an out-of-period hood scoop is really cool.
My opinion on things never changes. If it is yours, do with it whatever you want. But, if you want it pure, keep it pure. Don't change it and sell as the "new", best thing. It's just not. Would a Pistol Pac be a complete pistol pac with a 6" modified colt barrel included instead of the orignal DW? Just something to consider.

It's all about levels...
I have my PURIST DW collection with several in the original boxes, including several Pacs with all the original paperwork...
I have my SHOOT originals with custom slotted shrouds, bobbed hammers, custom parts, tuned actions, etc... things that should have been done to a DW if I was in the design shop. You know how many RED Pacs I've built for guys... they love them.
Then there are the true shooters... the range/fun/trail guns. Rubber grips, different finishes, scopes, EWK barrels, etc. The get used hard and abused and keep on going.
I don't care about the "flash hiding" effect... I wanted a external nut for my W-12 that didn't need any tools, that I could grab by hand, and was easy to produce/replace... and I have it. Life's GOOD

I hear what your saying Florida, and I would agree except like the white walls, that is a quick fix. I have tweaked out my DW but i have kept every oringal part, and they can all be put back in a moment. Barrel and shroud swaps are really a non-issue.. like putting in seat-covers on your classic. I am keeping the originals more pristine.
Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box
in that order.

I really don't mean to offend anyone with my thoughts and comments. I am very grateful to this forum for providing me with so much information about these guns. Much like the Garands and the early M14s and even the old Finish Nagants, the Dans have a history and a legacy. I have purchase 13 M1 Garands with the intent of making the next one my shooter. But every time I get that next one cleaned up, the refinished (using the orignal factory formula), and trying to match up the right serial numbers, it is no longer a shooter. Most of my DWs are unfired or minimally fired. And the next one I buy is going to be my shooter...and so on, and so on.
By the way, the Ferrari is for sale if you are interested. It is a 2008 with just under 1K miles. It is a great car, but like everything else, I just don't have the time.
