Not sure if we have discussed this before or not but have we determined a ballpark date range as to the switch in grip medallions?

Yes we discussed it before. My own unscientific research determined the change in medallions was around 79 or 80.

Is it possible that they changed at the same time as the shroud changed from porkchop to  the new style?

Mox, the DWA came first.

Zoomb, the Porkchop grips that used medallions were the small ones with a "W" visible. As close as I can tell, the DWA medallion came shortly after the 15-2 guns came along…some early 15-2's  used a version of the "W" medallion, here's member Dan Fan's early 15-2 for example (toward the bottom of this thread below).

Maybe a company that makes "Service Pins"-5 year/10 year, etc pins? Might even be able to get a cloisonne' one in colors.

hmmm... looks like a job for Google, I had these made once for a company I worked for, as I recall the minimum purchase was not terribly huge

1/2" in diameter witn DWF Logo?

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

That is a good thought Steve. The current medallions are 9/16".

That's a real good thought.  It never would have occurred to me that could be a cost-effective solution.

Cloisonne?  Wow, that could be really cool!

As kind of a side question, how are the medallions affixed to the grip?

Are they simply flat medallians glued into little disk shaped holes or do they have studs or pins on them going deeper into the grip?

I plan on reworking the grips on my 14-2 a bit and I want to remove the medallions without damaging them.

The answer is both glue and a stud. Remove the grip and look inside and you probably can see the end of the stud to help push it out. It may take a little finesse.GoodLuck

excellent ... should make it easier to get them out in one piece (without damaging the medallion or grip)

Some of the grips take more muscle than finesse.  For those of you interested in getting the medallions removed without pulling out all your hair.... here is what I use.  It is an automotive cotter key puller.

http://www.autobodytoolmart.com/craftsman-cotter-key-puller-p-13169.aspx

It works wonders for getting the medallions out.
