Kind of depends on what you mean by custom. Standard (non-fixed barrel) DW's are the most inherently customizable revolvers you can find.
Recently it has become possible to do even more, with the addition of the new EWK barrel/shroud assemblies.
You can slot shrouds, flash hiders and comps are available
You can add an LB grip, which you can have very custom made to your specs.
You can refinish in a variety of ways, including two or multi tone finishes.
One Member here has bobbed a hammer.
A variety of front sight styles are available.
Rear sights can have interchangeable outline styles, aftermarket rear sights are available (but scarce)
You can mount scopes, either as a clamp on or by drilling/tapping a shroud. Some folks have gotten just an extra shroud in the length they prefer, D&T'd it and install/uninstall it without ever removing the barrel.
There have been DW Carbines made
It is possible to build up from just a frame and do any of these options. Any 15-2/715 frame should lend itself to most or all of these options.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Aw shoot, SHOOT!
I just succumbed to with a new-to-me 14-2 with a bunch of barrels and now you go and show me stuff like that! I've got a 4-inch 15-2 barrel that has a little bit o' rust and I was thinking of having it re-blued. NOW, I'm thinking it'd be pretty neat with one of those slots down the side, a silver cylinder and a flash suppressor from EWK! I KNEW I should have bought one on my order yesterday!

I had a buddy with a mill do the slotting for me--I did some detailed measuring and gave him the specs I wanted...and Presto !!!
22 group was off a nice set of steady sandbags--I'm good offhand, but I'm not that good ...
It's hard to tell, but if you scroll up and take a careful look--the slots on the 14-2 was my test shroud. those slots are a little narrower than the ones on the .22 shroud. The wider slots look much better if you have the SS barrel liner to show off.
The barrel liners are stock DW SS ones, but I put a high polish on them with the lathe.

I'm sure that others will have valuable information as well but, my thought would be to find a complete DW and then use what you need. If you're looking for specific parts like just a frame or whatnot, you'll most likely be looking to buy from people who have stripped down a gun to part it out and get the most money for it as possible. I've seen (and bought) complete guns for what some of the parts cost individually.
And, if you have extra parts left over, they can also be sent back in to the cycle of life for someone else looking to include another barrel, grip, or whatever to their stable of DWs. That helps in your overall cost by putting back into the project. Just my twin-stack of change and it's probably worth every penny you paid for it.
