I just picked up a Model 12 Pistol Pack yesterday that is in 97% plus condition. I traded a gun i picked up for $580 for the PP so i figured i can't go wrong for under $600. This one will look great next to my 715 Pistol Pack and 15 HV PP. The bluing is a deep glossy black with virtually no wear! I cant wait to take it to the range.

When did they stop production on the model 12? I know the first one was shipped in 1970 and the 14,15 were introduced in 1971? Did they stop the model 12 when the 14,15s were introduced in 1971? I wish I had two extra barrel nuts or EWK would make some as well. I hear they can can go for $100 on eBay.

I am fairly certain they stopped production of the 11 & 12 in mid-to-late 1971, when they rolled out the 14 & 15. So in my book, that makes these guns fairly rare, in the grand scheme of things. One of these days they may be worth millions! Congrats on your find, I think you you did great. And thanks for showing it off! BTW, is yours a 2 or 3 digit serial number?
Stovepipe, because the lower foam is actually two pieces, it's easy for them to be placed in the case either direction. I think most folks have the gun facing left, just because. Here are my two...Ed & Fred, #96 & 97.
Fred has been fired a little at some point, like maybe 20 rounds or so...Ed appears to have only been fired at the factory. I'm still deciding if I should take Fred to the range & give him some exercise.

The serial number is on the frame under the crane...
Actually, the early ones were on the grip tang.
They moved to the frame under the crane a while later. This is a model 12 stamped under the crane...
Before my photo host site crashed a while back, I had a pretty substantial list of s/n's going, so I could try to narrow down when the change took place. I kept the list with the photos for reference...THAT was a bad idea. Most are now gone.So now, I can't recall for sure what the highest number was that was on a grip tang...but I do recall it was another member here. So Rugercypert, if your isn't stamped under the crane & it looks like the top photo I posted, congratulations, you are the new high number winner!

Sweet, we have a winner!! Honestly, I would be surprised to see very many digits above yours. This is good to know, one day we will be able to dial in this stuff a whole lot closer.
Oh, and just to be speculative, I would imagine your PP was made probably 2-3 months after my own Ed-n-Fred twins. I don't know how many finished guns they were cranking out that early on, but I would love to find out answers to guesses like this.

I am 8072 under the crane. Mine was not a pack but I have accumulated all three barrels. It has a special place in my heart. It is the first Dan I performed surgery on. A broken hand spring. I used to know about the early ser. # being on the tang but I am having senior moments occassionally.Or more.

That's perfectly fine, I have enough of those myself, so I'm not going to point fingers!
My main concern here is to keep the facts "factual" for future members/readers. There is already too many misconstrued "facts" where DW's are concerned, so here at the we need to try to keep it as straight as possible.
And on that thought, I don't recall seeing a number higher than 1xxx on the grip tang, so (for now) there's a very good chance that they went to stamping the numbers on the crane shortly before (or AT) the 2K mark.
